Air America Spreads Wings (Expansion/Malloy Info)
http://www.nydailynews.com/07-24-2004/entertainment/story/215082p-185175c.html

The liberal talk network Air America, heard locally on WLIB (1190 AM), is adding Mike Malloy, 10 p.m.-1 a.m. weeknights, starting Aug. 2.
Air America President Jon Sinton also says the network is adding another "major California affiliate" early next month, and "chances are very good" it will find affiliates soon in Los Angeles and Chicago.

Sinton says he thinks the flurry of stories about instability at the fledgling network "are pretty much behind us now. ... We're focused on making this work, and it's happening."

Simultaneously, he says, "Our product is improving. I'd be the first to admit some of what we did the first month was bad. But now we sound pretty good."

4. Yes!
This is great news! The only downside is I will be losing alot of sleep trying to stay up and listen until 1:00am. There is always the repeat of the show plus the archives.

Wow - Molly's birth and a new gig on Air America. Good things come to those who wait!

:bounce:

23. Oh, you Big Cityslickers
Those of us in smaller cities and small towns with AAR affiliates are kinda enjoying having something you don't have. There are three affiliates in the Hawaiian islands, for example, as well as here in little ol' Portland. Nyah nyah! ... (Kidding! The more AAR affiliates, the better, of course!)

9. So this is where y'all are!
Posted a response in Media and wondered why it was so quiet.

Must be such happy days in the Malloy digs. Congrats all around! But today I feel like the big winner. Malloy will be on before this child 'o god falls asllep. In Colorado he'll be on 8 - 11. Then I can listen to Bernie Ward for an hour and then watch The Daily Show.

P.S. It's chily here just west of Denver and we have the furnace going. For real!

It would be an injustice to go through THIS election year without Mike. Having him onboard for the Repugs convention is just beautiful.

14. Do we really want the fairness doctrine reinstated?
It would shut down AA in addition to people like Rush.

I still believe we need greater regulation of the media though.

17. I hope KPOJ carries him.

They might not. I'll have to find out. Mike is going
to be Mike and I don't think he would take the job if AAR
tried to tell him what he can and can't say.

He might be a little much for KPOJ.

26. They don't carry the weekend programming.

And they carry Ed Shultz instead of Randi live.

So I think they have some discretion here.

19. They're doing well in the ratings in NYC according Crain's NY Business
Air America soars to No. 2 in talk

Air America, the liberal talk-radio network that launched at the end of March on WLIB-AM, has landed in second place in the New York talk arena, its 1.7 share in the 25-to-54 demographic beating rival WOR’s 1.0 share, according to the spring Arbitron report.

WOR’s hosts include conservatives Bill O’Reilly and Bob Grant.

WLIB trailed AM-radio leader WABC, whose hosts include Rush Limbaugh. It had a 2.3 share in the demographic. Copyright 2004, Crain Communications, Inc

27. All that Air America "failing" stuff is bullshit ...

They've gone from 4 affiliates to 2x in a matter of 4 months. Most Rethuglican business majors would laud quadruple growth in half a year as a stunning achievment.

Next thing you know, they'll be berating their 5 year olds because they can't hit like Sammy Sosa. Sheesh, give the boy some time.

I'm glad to see they're adding Mike Malloy. Now if we can get a slot for Bernie Ward, it would be super.
