TBTM Movie Review: 'Bush's Brain'
Bush's Brain is one of the most infuriating films I've ever seen. Seriously.

I tried watching it once yesterday, but I only got about halfway through its 80-minute running time before I got so pissed off, I had to turn it off. Tonight I stayed with it all the way, and all I can say is I hope that everyone in the DNC from John Kerry and John Edwards on down to bottom-rung political operatives get a copy of this DVD.

Michael Paradeis Shoob and Josheph Mealey's adaptation of the book of the same name by James Moore and Wayne Slater should be required viewing by the DNC, because by reviewing Karl Rove's past it reveals just what the Democratic ticket is in for this year. Tracing the twin career arcs of Rove and George W. Bush is information that will be very useful to the Democratic ticket - because it shows that like any con man, Rove is running the same game he started running in high school - only on a much larger stage with much higher stakes.

Starting with the mind games Rove played on his high school debate team (and the creepy detail that while other teens had rock starts or sports figures tacked to their bedroom walls, Rove had a poster that said 'Wake Up, America') and his thorough disruption and subsequent takeover of the College Republicans in 1973, Bush's Brain reveals Rove to be a one-trick pony - but that one trick has been honed to a deadly edge over the course of 30 years. All the questionable conduct that's going on in the White House now has been Rove's stock in trade since he was a kid. And the history that is compiled in this film suggests that Rove cares not a whit for the trail of political bodies he's left strewn in his wake.
