I have a huge sign in the window of my car. I also wear my K/E pins

every chance I get. I live in a very republican part of NC but the area is also very affluent. Mostly I hear good-natured competitive remarks from local republicans, to which I always respond, "I'll pray for you." On the other hand, I work with a few fundamentalist Christian republicans who would love to rip the sign from my window and flatten my tires. If I know that they are the angry-Bush- supporter type, I make sure they know that I love them and I hope the election does not hurt our friendship. I, too, have a Kerry bumper sticker on my car. Don't be afraid to keep yours on, because that is what they want us to be...afraid. They like to intimidate. I have had two negative encounters in traffic. One, a girl came up behind me, very fast, proceeded to go around me, also very fast, then cut in front of me....VERY close, and with no signal. As she drove ahead, she had a Bush/Cheney bumper sticker, AND a sticker describing liberals as being so open minded, their brains fall out(or something close to that). I think they are doing that, so we can see what they have on 'their' vehicles, sort of an 'in your face' thing..(that is their mentality). I reported her, for reckless driving, as I had to slam on my brakes, in order to not hit her, and she proceeded to drive very fast ahead of us. She had three little kids in the back of the SUV (all sitting against the back window/end gate, and we all know there are NO seat belts back there. Kids are to be belted in, that's the law.
Second occurrence was another vehicle, came up behind me, but got into the left hand turn lane, drove past and beeped. They also had bumper stickers Bush/Cheney. Just goes to show how mean spirited they are. We have a RIGHT to show our support for Kerry/Edwards, and there's NO way, I will take mine off.
Funny thing, we don't bother THEM, but they have to harrass us and be nasty. Makes no sense, but simply shows how they are. I am proud to be a Democrat, voting for Kerry, and they can't take that away. I think that's what bothers them.

THEN, an elderly couple in our hotel garage, parked right next to us and the man said, "I like the "colorful" stickers on your car!" He said, "I saw my favorite the other day..."Save the environment...Plant a Bush back in Crawford".....ANOTHER 2 votes for Kerry!

THEN, in Harrisburg, Pa., our valet brought us our car and when he got out he said..."I like the stickers you have on your car!" It has been this way for quite a while, but I don't think we really noticed until just recently HOW divided we are.

I've been carrying political bumper stickers for a couple years, and I have only had one time that I got actual crap for it. I DID, however, just last week, have a guy standing behind my car reading my stickers and shaking his head. When I walked up, he looked at me and scampered away before I could say anything to him. He climbed into a big Pickup truck and sped out of the parking lot.

Right now, I have two pro-Union stickers, an Obama for Senate magnet and an anti Bush sticker from Move On dot org.

I've had WAY more response to the anti Bush buttons I have on my purse. The Bush lied button has made a lot of folks talk to me about our country and about bush--and usually it has been very negative about him.

ONE lady (older and expensively dressed) yelled at me in the grocery store, calling me a traitor and telling me to leave the country if I think it is "so bad" here. I yelled back at her and reminded her that it is a patriotic DUTY to speak up when we disagree with our government.

I also reminded her that our nation was founded by political dissidents and that I have no intention of pissing on what they created by sitting silently by.

I find that anyone who does step up and engage me is probably not gonna have enough backbone to stand up when faced with any substantive discussion or argument.

Maybe it is my Union ties, maybe it is my history of speaking out on unpopular issues, but I gave up worrying about it a while ago. I figure anyone dumb enough to venture there in an unfriendly manner will be greeted with equal offensiveness.

Apparently they didn't like to hear opposing concepts I held to their own, especially when it came to my view concerning the radical neoconservative movement and the ensuing coup in 2000. Unfortunately for them more than five times their number agreed with me, including their female Brazilian companions who left them at the bar in utter disgust. Sadly, only one of them seemed to even be embarrassed by their ignorance.

i also have the "bush lied, people died" button on my purse strap. no negative comments, but got one positive comment from the cashier at HEB in the town where i live. we chatted a bit about it & i thanked her for noticing, because hers was the first comment i got...she replied "that's because everyone feels the same way." wow, she must hear a lot checking folks out of the grocery store.... :)

I live in Dallas and I've had "Texas Democrat" and "Regime change begins at home" on my van for months now. Nothin's happened yet.

BUT I do occasionally get a thumbs up from another driver (and a smile) or a note under my windshield saying "Great stickers!" Those always make my day.

Think of it this way: the sticker is there, not to infuriate bush supporters, but to give hope and strength to all Kerry supporters/bush haterz in your neck of the woods. And it really does.

I live in Houston, and I've actually been seeing more Kerry/Edwards stickers lately.

I wouldn't be too worried about a Kerry/Edwards sticker. If you had more incendiary material on your bumper, that might be cause for concern.

My major concern would be some asshole vandalizing my car when it was parked; if I wanted to put a sticker on my car, I'd use one that is magnetically backed, so I could remove it when parked, and rotate them periodically.

I wouldn't worry about dirty looks and getting 'The Bird' occasionally. Just smile and wave, and slash 'em the peace sign. That seems to have the effect of infuriating them, without actually escalating the road rage.

I don't have stickers on my car. I don't see the point. Nobody is going to change their mind because of any bumpersticker I might have on my car, but some yahoo might vandalise me, or be more likely to display road rage. So, I see a negative expectation value on having a political bumpersticker.

If you are worried please consider taking it off. I don't blame you one bit for being concerned. Conservative apes are agressive and assholes by nature and if something did happen you would be upset with yourself too, for putting it on there. Who needs that grief.

There are a million other ways (including getting people to vote) that you can keep repugs from "silencing" you. Feeling nervous about putting a sticker on your car says everything about jerkoff conservatives and nothing about your loyalty to our cause.

I doubt anyone has ever been convinced to vote for someone because they see a sticker on someone's car anyway.

I won't put one on my car in Dallas - there are too many assholes here and I don't want my car keyed or vandalized.

I will wear "Anybody but Bush t-shirts" but I won't put that open invitation to jack with me on my car in such a Conservative state.

The only bumper stickers I have put on my cars say stuff like " I support the Dallas Police" or "Texas State Trooper Backer"... I swear I've gottan 4 warnings in the past 10 years instead of speeding tickets because of my bumper message, and who knows how many times I haven't been pulled over because of them. LOL I speed 10 miles or so over the speed limit a lot (except in school zones) and I haven't got a ticket in over 10 years.

Here is something I do if I can get away with it - especially if I see Hummers or outrageously big and pointless SUVs in supermarket parking lots. I take my shopping cart and gently line it up against their vehicles. I don't damage them, but I do make it look like a wayward cart crashed into their car. I laughed to myself at their expression walking to their car when they see it, and then them worrying about stratches ... lol lol I don't do it very often and I make sure no one sees me, I'm real casual about it.

I probably will creat some bad karma for myself, but I'll just have to live with it.

I live in Michigan, and at the beginning of this "war" I had anti war stickers on my car AND a picture of my stepson in Iraq, with a sticker next to it that said "bring the troops home now".
I had my car keyed, my car door kicked in, and was almost run off the road a few times.

They are actually magnets, and I take them off if I leave my car in public parking like at the airport (I travel a lot). The one on the left says:

86. Just this weekend

I parked next to a car that had some pretty strong anti-Bush signs in the window (can't remember all, but mostly about the $87M, no WMD's, and the death toll). An older woman was getting in the car as I was getting out, and I just had to ask her about the signs. She said no, she hasn't had any trouble at all with people vandalizing her car or being rude. She was very modest and even disagreed a bit when I told her she was a very brave lady.

Kind of makes me feel like a wimp when an older gal puts signs like that in her late-model car when an able-bodied man like myself is skittish about putting a bumper sticker on his 12 year old beater.

Only time I have gotten anything ripped off of my car was my Jesus fish here at the local college. That's right, my jesus fish....There are Christian Democrats! Not a big deal except the punk damaged my bumper. Ah well. Funny story though, my friend went to The University of Georgia (He's a die in the wool repuke and has been banned in here) had a Rush is Right sticker back in like 1994 on his truck. He lived on campus so naturally it kept getting ripped off. So he tapes one inside his window and I kid you not someone broke the glass and took it.
