I have yet to be messed with in any form whatsoever.

BTW - I live in Dallas, TX!

16. My wife knows an African-American lady in the Metroplex
who's son had his windows on his car bashed in for his Texans for Kerry sticker.

My wife has gotten tailgated, cut off and swerved at driving up to Dallas from here on 35. She also has gotten the same dirty looks. But so far, no car damage. I suggested taking the sticker off out of fear for her safety. Of course she said not just "no", but "hell no!"

that person will regret living.

Road rage is against the law in Texas.

If someone tries to run me off the road it is instant charges against them.

I will not tolerate this behavior by anyone in a country with free speech.

If it's a fine I doubt a winger will care.

Plus if there are no witnesses a cop in TX may be more inclined to believe the winger...

I have credibility in Texas much to the chagrin of the Freepers.

If the Road Rage charge does not stick I will file a lawsuit and suck it out them one lawyer dollar at a time.

Their dwindling bank account will cause them alarm.

45. Yep
I not only have Kerry and Dem stickers, but I also have Purple Heart plates and a Texas A&M Association of Former Students sticker on my car.

The back of my van confuses the crap out of people who engage in stereotypes!!!

I have NEVER been messed with in any way. Not even a dirty look. I'm kinda disappointed, LOL!

60. Here's an idea for a sticker, in addition to any others:
"Angry Armed Democrat"

"I'm voting for Kerry, and I CCW"

"Loaded firearm on board"

You might get hassled by police, but i suspect any less-than-clearheaded RWer will think twice before trying to intimidate you off the road.

2. Don't be
I have "Save Our Country-Vote Democratic" stickers on my car, and I drive around Northern AR, a very conservative region. So far, I've gotten thumbs up. The one time my husband was confronted by an angry man in a parking lot, the man came up to him-and told him that Bush had to go!

You have a right to put those bumper stickers on your car. If anyone touches you or your car because of them, report them to the cops.

i have a U.S. navy submarine vet sticker directly underneath my Kerry/Edwards 04 sticker......and there was a Kerry 04 and a dean 04 sticker there before that.

i got a lot of middle fingers and glares with the dean sticker...untill they would pull up next to me and realize i am not your prototypical tofu eating, 105 lb, tree hugging hippie the right seems to think we all are.....i am not a small man by anyones definition.

i just got my first "intimidation" attempt with the Kerry sticker yesterday....some Karen Hughes look alike in a mini-van...with her bush/cheney 04 sticker and Florida right to life tag firmly affixed to the back....gave me a thumbs down and was mouthing "boo" at me as she passed. to bad i caught up to her at the next stop light though....there were no hand signals there, thats for sure...no mouthing...nothing.....i just stared at her and gave her a peace symbol as i took off....she didn't repeat her actions as she passed me a few minutes later...didn't even look at me......heheheheh....

Ford F150 pick up truck. I have not been looking for any dirty looks, because I do not give a rats ass what anyone thinks. I have noticed, most freeps have a tendency not to mess with Vets, because they are a bunch of wimps if they have not served. If they have served, then they usually recognize that we have earned our voice. That is the feeling that I have, true or not, I am not sure.

I have a huge sign in the window of my car. I also wear my K/E pins
every chance I get. I live in a very republican part of NC but the area is also very affluent. Mostly I hear good-natured competitive remarks from local republicans, to which I always respond, "I'll pray for you." On the other hand, I work with a few fundamentalist Christian republicans who would love to rip the sign from my window and flatten my tires. If I know that they are the angry-Bush- supporter type, I make sure they know that I love them and I hope the election does not hurt our friendship. Once that has been established and the anger is somewhat diffused, I can sense whether or not to make politics off limits with that person. I try not to push them away.

8. I have three bumper stickers on my car
on the left it says:

Slashed out Mission Accomplished replaced with Nothing Accomplish - Defeat Bush 2004

In the middle Regime Change Begins at Home

And on the Right

Don't Blame me I voted with the Majority - I'm going to replace this one with a Kerry Edwards sticker as soon as I get around to it.

I have had negative Bush bumper stickers on since before he was inaugurated - and I have only had two "problems" (not any big deal) That was a long time ago - now I just get I love your bumper stickers - as a matter of fact I returned a u-haul this morning and a guy there said I love your bumper stickers and I said don't forget to vote and he replied yes mame!!!

I live in Northern VA but have made several trips to FL with the car which means I drive through VA, NC, SC, GA and into FL to central FL and have never had a problem - I say display them proudly - besides it will make you feel great when someone gives you the thumbs up!!!!

and have had Kerry for President sticker on my car for several weeks, without problem. I have to admit, though, that there are a lot of K/E and anti Bush stickers around, so it's not a problem. Yesterday, I saw "Beat the Bushes, vote Kerry 2004" and "Republican'ts" bumper stickers, among the K/E stickers. I'm looking for a funny anti-Bush sticker to add to my other bumper. Hang in there...if the convention goes well, you should have more positive reactions to your auto display MKJ

19. Kerry/Edwards sticker

I, too, have a Kerry bumper sticker on my car. Don't be afraid to keep yours on, because that is what they want us to be...afraid. They like to intimidate. I have had two negative encounters in traffic. One, a girl came up behind me, very fast, proceeded to go around me, also very fast, then cut in front of me....VERY close, and with no signal. As she drove ahead, she had a Bush/Cheney bumper sticker, AND a sticker describing liberals as being so open minded, their brains fall out(or something close to that). I think they are doing that, so we can see what they have on 'their' vehicles, sort of an 'in your face' thing..(that is their mentality). I reported her, for reckless driving, as I had to slam on my brakes, in order to not hit her, and she proceeded to drive very fast ahead of us. She had three little kids in the back of the SUV (all sitting against the back window/end gate, and we all know there are NO seat belts back there. Kids are to be belted in, that's the law.
Second occurrence was another vehicle, came up behind me, but got into the left hand turn lane, drove past and beeped. They also had bumper stickers Bush/Cheney. Just goes to show how mean spirited they are. We have a RIGHT to show our support for Kerry/Edwards, and there's NO way, I will take mine off.
Funny thing, we don't bother THEM, but they have to harrass us and be nasty. Makes no sense, but simply shows how they are. I am proud to be a Democrat, voting for Kerry, and they can't take that away. I think that's what bothers them.

Have to tell you, that on the other hand, my Dad, who is a WWII Navy Veteran, also has the Kerry bumper sticker on his car, along with a Navy Veteran sticker. The other day, a big pickup truck was beeping away, and drove along side him, and he thought they were, you know, one of 'them'....lol lol....here they were two big guys, who gave him a big thumbs up, drove in front of him, and had Kerry stickers plastered all over. 22. I have 4 stickers on my car and
I live in a repuke village, city, county. George Ryan grew up here...:puke: and the newspapers love him and his republican cohorts. So do the voters. :( It's AWFUL! In fact, our neighbors son, a 12 year old, told my son the other day, when he saw my stickers, "Kerry's just going to be another Clinton." I told my son that his dad is a republican....that's where he got THAT. BUT, dad hasn't had the GUTS to say anything to me or my husband about Kerry. He just fills his kids heads with bullshit lies. :puke: It's REALLY BAD here!

I have 3 Kerry stickers and a DUMP BUSH sticker on my car and I'm waiting anxiously for my NEW....."BUSH LIED.....REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER"
I can't WAIT to put it on my car. I have had NOTHING but POSITIVE remarks about my stickers. I was VERY worried about them UNTIL I went on vacation.

While on vacation.....on the East coast, we had a guy pull up next to us on the interstate and put his arm out with a thumbs up! He then pulled ahead of us, slowed down so we could see HIS Kerry bumpersticker! :)

THEN, we were at a travel center, walked out to our car and a guy was standing by his car which was parked right next to us, he said.."I LOVE the stickers on your car!" We had a lovely 10 minute conversation about how bad Bush is. He was from Pa. and told me how his co-workers, 5 of them, were ex-military who had voted for the chimp and were cheering for the invasion, are NOW VOTING FOR KERRY! His wife, voted for the chimp and is VOTING for Kerry! He also said his city in Pa. was predominately republican and he is seeing more and more Kerry bumperstickers. WooHoo!

THEN, an elderly couple in our hotel garage, parked right next to us and the man said, "I like the "colorful" stickers on your car!" He said, "I saw my favorite the other day..."Save the environment...Plant a Bush back in Crawford".....ANOTHER 2 votes for Kerry!

THEN, in Harrisburg, Pa., our valet brought us our car and when he got out he said..."I like the stickers you have on your car!" He said, "You know, Bush was just here this week for a rally and he was standin' up there ACTIN' A FOOL! You know what bothers me the most about him? He stands up there acting like everything is just wonderful when he has our kids are over there in Iraq being SLAUGHTERED!" He HATED the chimp! He said, "I can't wait until he's not the president!" ANOTHER VOTE FOR KERRY!

WEAR YOUR STICKERS WITH PRIDE! I also bought extra bumperstickers and buttons to hand out...just in case someone says something about them. Spread the word...LIBERAL and PROUD OF IT!

27. It's almost like breaking a silence
They say that saying something aloud enables other people to say the same thing -- not as a meme, but as a thought others had anyway but were afraid to articulate. The idea that supporting anything or anybody that isn't the Chimperor is being "unpatriotic" has been hammered for such a long time now, it's still around (you know, "How can you criticize The Preznit's tax cuts when our troops are in harm's way?!")...

So I congratulate and applaud you for putting the sticker on your car and taking a visible stand! It breaks a "silence" and helps make it okay for others to take a stand in some way, I think.

(I'm waiting for my stickers to arrive, and am keeping my Clark04 one on, but it's easier here in Maryland where we're pretty solidly "blue." Different story when I drive to Virginia, though!)

29. I have
a bumper sticker that says "War and Greed are NOT Christian" on my car. The only reason I took off the "No More Bushit" one is because I'm now running for office and I've put one on with my name on it.

No one ever messed with me when I had the Bushit one on the car, and I'm 55 years old, short, female. And my kid attends a snooty private school where a lot of the parents (and kids, sadly) are die-hard Bush supporters. Of course, they're the ones who've benefitted from his tax cuts.

The only comments I have ever gotten have been positive. No, wait! A couple of years ago someone saw my "He wasn't elected on September 11th either" sticker and said something about my being a bleeding heart liberal. I smiled and acted as if that was a compliment.

So keep the bumper sticker on.

31. We are a nation divided.
It has been this way for quite a while, but I don't think we really noticed until just recently HOW divided we are.

I've been carrying political bumper stickers for a couple years, and I have only had one time that I got actual crap for it. I DID, however, just last week, have a guy standing behind my car reading my stickers and shaking his head. When I walked up, he looked at me and scampered away before I could say anything to him. He climbed into a big Pickup truck and sped out of the parking lot.

Right now, I have two pro-Union stickers, an Obama for Senate magnet and an anti Bush sticker from Move On dot org.

I've had WAY more response to the anti Bush buttons I have on my purse. The Bush lied button has made a lot of folks talk to me about our country and about bush--and usually it has been very negative about him.

ONE lady (older and expensively dressed) yelled at me in the grocery store, calling me a traitor and telling me to leave the country if I think it is "so bad" here. I yelled back at her and reminded her that it is a patriotic DUTY to speak up when we disagree with our government.

I also reminded her that our nation was founded by political dissidents and that I have no intention of pissing on what they created by sitting silently by.

I find that anyone who does step up and engage me is probably not gonna have enough backbone to stand up when faced with any substantive discussion or argument.

Maybe it is my Union ties, maybe it is my history of speaking out on unpopular issues, but I gave up worrying about it a while ago. I figure anyone dumb enough to venture there in an unfriendly manner will be greeted with equal offensiveness.

32. In a democracy, all is very clear
As soon as you agree not to express any more freely your opinions, you accept that the democracy does not exist any more. The democracy is not a heaven gift, but a fight of every moment for which a lot of people died.

I often heard many Americans to say that they lived in the greatest democracy of the world. Prove it

71. Can't be proved because it's NOT the greatest democracy in the world
and it may never be. This is the myth that binds us to an ideal that we are far from achieving. We are in a conundrum of our own making by refusing to deconstruct our superiority complex and analyze its constituent parts. I wish we could be more like France of the 19th century where intellectuals met in cafes to argue, debate and analyze the foibles of our leaders. Instead, myopic thinking rules the day. Many folks here are afraid of ANY political discussion in public. Here in New Orleans, we do have open discussions in our cafes and bars more than some other places in the USA, but it's not as common as say in Paris or Madrid. Even when I lived in Brazil I came across more people interested in political conversation than one would normally find in the USA. What are Americans afraid of?... shattering the myth of American superiority by only discussing the errors of our ways? In fact, three Americans tried to start a fight with me in a cafe in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro after they eavesdropped on a conversation I had with a scholar from Oxford. Apparently they didn't like to hear opposing concepts I held to their own, especially when it came to my view concerning the radical neoconservative movement and the ensuing coup in 2000. Unfortunately for them more than five times their number agreed with me, including their female Brazilian companions who left them at the bar in utter disgust. Sadly, only one of them seemed to even be embarrassed by their ignorance.

72. The things are changing in France too.
Our cultural tradition is the controversy ("polémique" in French), but this tradition is dying. Very few political programs at the Tv, now the politically correct is the standard... Less and less I recognize my country and soon the boredom will fall over us.

With friends we are always able to talk about policy during many hours with loud speeches and to be angry with each other during five minutes but these discussions are disappeared from our tv screen. Just a little effort and we will talk about religions soon... And we'll be totally American.

80. The explanation : we are beginning to abjure ourselves
Edited on Mon Jul-26-04 08:17 AM by BonjourUSA
just an example. Some years ago, when I said to a Jew, an arab or a Black "You are an asshole" I spoke French to French, now If I said the same I'd be an awful racist. What a bullshit ! No ? Let's continue the explanation with the Jews example which is a real problem. Before the 90s, in the French WWII commemorations, first you found veterans and after resistants and survivors of the concentrations camps, the name for this genocide was "holocoste", everybody was French. Now, after a few monority Jew organisations claims, you find first Jew camps survivors and after no-Jew veterans and resistants, the word for the "holocoste" is "shoa". But the anti-semitism is increasing and the majority of the Jew organisations wants to come back to the French values but perhaps it is too late.

You speak about our French philosophers !!! Never they wouldn't have agreed with this calamitous 'politically correct" which is the end of our social cement and our traditions.

91. Yes, this is dysfunctional behavior on a national scale.
Looks like French folks are copying the dysfunctional behavior of Americans where nobody is willing to talk about their problems and unhealthy behavior/thinking. I mention only one out of many great French philosophers - I admire their honestly, intellect, and courage (even the anarchists). Personally, I embrace "French culture" in its various forms of many eras. Most Americans either refuse or cannot fathom the philosophical depths to which Satre brings us. Americans, in general, are anti-intellectual... though not all of us.

35. I don't do bumper stickers, ever
The place to beat the freeps is at the ballot box, not on the bumper. I do, of course, shoot off my mouth at every opportunity, and engage them in discussions whenever possible. Most of the people I've talked to are nice people -- Mississippians! -- whose eyes have simply been programmed shut. I've managed to open a few.

But I don't do bumper stickers; never have, never will.

I never considered myself "partisan" enough, until the last few years whe the media went into full-tilt fascist warmongering mode and the GOP went from a slightly sleazy party that pandered to gullible Christians while giving $ to the rich, to a truly sick and evil and arrogant party of pure hate, greed and fascism.

I've always had pro-labor sympathies, and since the GOP has declared war on American working people, I will not support them again (and the same goes for some of their "democrat" enablers. It infuriated me no end when Gephardt missed that close vote on protecting overtime protections...

this is the first time i've EVER put a bumper sticker on my car & it's actually on the rear window....a w with a red circle & line through it. it says pretty much everything i want to say in a small, concise way. :) otherwise, i wouldn't know which sticker to put on my car! LOL

i also have the "bush lied, people died" button on my purse strap. no negative comments, but got one positive comment from the cashier at HEB in the town where i live. we chatted a bit about it & i thanked her for noticing, because hers was the first comment i got...she replied "that's because everyone feels the same way." wow, she must hear a lot checking folks out of the grocery store.... :)

I live in a very red area and I refuse to let that scare me. Since when is there anything wrong with supporting your presidential candidate with a bumper sticker?!! On the other hand, I might be a little nervous about one that blatantly bashes Bush. There's a difference.

BUT I do occasionally get a thumbs up from another driver (and a smile) or a note under my windshield saying "Great stickers!" Those always make my day.

Think of it this way: the sticker is there, not to infuriate bush supporters, but to give hope and strength to all Kerry supporters/bush haterz in your neck of the woods. And it really does.

You GO!!!!

By all means, if you have reason to fear trouble, take the sticker off.

If you feel OK, leave it on.

There's no need to endanger yourself. I'd rather you were a live voter than a dead bumper sticker messenger.

I don't think bumper stickers are all that important, and I don't feel they do much to help anybody.

Plus, people are much braver when they type on the internet.

59. Where do you live?
I live in Houston, and I've actually been seeing more Kerry/Edwards stickers lately.

I wouldn't be too worried about a Kerry/Edwards sticker. If you had more incendiary material on your bumper, that might be cause for concern.

My major concern would be some asshole vandalizing my car when it was parked; if I wanted to put a sticker on my car, I'd use one that is magnetically backed, so I could remove it when parked, and rotate them periodically.

I wouldn't worry about dirty looks and getting 'The Bird' occasionally. Just smile and wave, and slash 'em the peace sign. That seems to have the effect of infuriating them, without actually escalating the road rage.

I don't have stickers on my car. I don't see the point. Nobody is going to change their mind because of any bumpersticker I might have on my car, but some yahoo might vandalise me, or be more likely to display road rage. So, I see a negative expectation value on having a political bumpersticker.

66. If it's making you nervous - take it off.
If you are worried please consider taking it off. I don't blame you one bit for being concerned. Conservative apes are agressive and assholes by nature and if something did happen you would be upset with yourself too, for putting it on there. Who needs that grief.

There are a million other ways (including getting people to vote) that you can keep repugs from "silencing" you. Feeling nervous about putting a sticker on your car says everything about jerkoff conservatives and nothing about your loyalty to our cause.

I doubt anyone has ever been convinced to vote for someone because they see a sticker on someone's car anyway.

I won't put one on my car in Dallas - there are too many assholes here and I don't want my car keyed or vandalized.

I will wear "Anybody but Bush t-shirts" but I won't put that open invitation to jack with me on my car in such a Conservative state.

The only bumper stickers I have put on my cars say stuff like " I support the Dallas Police" or "Texas State Trooper Backer"... I swear I've gottan 4 warnings in the past 10 years instead of speeding tickets because of my bumper message, and who knows how many times I haven't been pulled over because of them. LOL I speed 10 miles or so over the speed limit a lot (except in school zones) and I haven't got a ticket in over 10 years.

Here is something I do if I can get away with it - especially if I see Hummers or outrageously big and pointless SUVs in supermarket parking lots. I take my shopping cart and gently line it up against their vehicles. I don't damage them, but I do make it look like a wayward cart crashed into their car. I laughed to myself at their expression walking to their car when they see it, and then them worrying about stratches ... lol lol I don't do it very often and I make sure no one sees me, I'm real casual about it.

I probably will creat some bad karma for myself, but I'll just have to live with it.

They are actually magnets, and I take them off if I leave my car in public parking like at the airport (I travel a lot). The one on the left says:

John Kerry '04
-------------------------------------------
3 Purple Hearts + 1 Brain = 4 Better Years

The one on the right says:

Iraq is Arabic for Vietnam

These are both up on the back of my trunk, which is squarish (97 VW Jetta). On my bumper I have a democraticunderground.com sticker.

I have gotten lots of positive comments, especially regarding the Iraq sticker. Some dirty looks, but I just smile prettily and shoot them a peace sign. They don't know how to respond to that!

86. Just this weekend
I parked next to a car that had some pretty strong anti-Bush signs in the window (can't remember all, but mostly about the $87M, no WMD's, and the death toll). An older woman was getting in the car as I was getting out, and I just had to ask her about the signs. She said no, she hasn't had any trouble at all with people vandalizing her car or being rude. She was very modest and even disagreed a bit when I told her she was a very brave lady.

Kind of makes me feel like a wimp when an older gal puts signs like that in her late-model car when an able-bodied man like myself is skittish about putting a bumper sticker on his 12 year old beater.

A very OTT "God Bless America" with Statue of Liberty motif

Not a big deal except the punk damaged my bumper. Ah well. Funny story though, my friend went to The University of Georgia (He's a die in the wool repuke and has been banned in here) had a Rush is Right sticker back in like 1994 on his truck. He lived on campus so naturally it kept getting ripped off. So he tapes one inside his window and I kid you not someone broke the glass and took it.

And I have only been flipped off twice...

It reads
"John Kerry!"
A President we can salute with more than one finger

The first time was by a guy in a SUV behind me while driving in Plano. He just did a basic honk, flip the bird..

The second time I pulled behind some rich bitch in a Saab in North Dallas who had a bumpersticker that said
"Support Terrorism, vote Democrat"

I finagled my way around her so she could read mine. Made a left at the stop light and she did everything she could to get beside me, honking, yelling something through her closed window and my closed window, flipping me off over and over. I looked over and smiled and flashed a peace sign. She was about to boil over.

Pretty funny,

I say, screw em'
