G.E.RUSSERT, Meet-the-One-Non-Journalist, Two Tongue Slips & Counting |
|
Edited on Sun Jul-25-04 08:48 AM by UTUSN
After leading OBAMA around the are-you-a-Liberal pony ride, he was doing the KEAN-HAMILTON thing and had these TWO mental/tongue slips:
1) (Listing all the terror attacks before 9-11) "In the MIDDLE of the 2000 presidential campaign, October 2000, the U.S.S. Cole, with 17 Americans dead--------and there was NO (response/interest)."
--------Uh, G.E., what questions were YOU (and your fellow non-journalists) asking about during Campaign 20000---wasn't it about what a bully GORE was, how befuddled he was about his wardrobe?
2) "You say in your report that (governmental policies/activities) were NOT affected by the impeachment of President *******BUSH******** ... "
---------Yes, he didn't catch it, and KEAN/HAMILTON didn't correct him.

1. Now Tom LOCKJAW Is Yammering about JK's "Comfort Level" |
|
Tom, who was on auto pilot on Election Night 2000, says that JK has GREAT resume, "and intelligent, obviously, but the American people have yet to decide whether they have a COMFORT LEVEL with JK in the White House."
Like we're COMFORTABLE with a brain addled JERK now.
"We have an incumbent pResident who is A VERY STRONG CANDIDATE, whatever else anybody might think of him. Against an energized Dem party. We're in for a Donnybrook."
If that's what Tom thinks, then we're WINNING IN A LANDSLIDE.

2. Brokow is just saying that the Nation will learn MUCH MORE... |
|
about who John Kerry is at the convention. The people know who Bush is and have SERIOUS DOUBTS about him. If JK can "seal the deal" with the people then he WILL win. If not, then Bushista can "slip by" to a second term.

4. I want to digress slightly to agree with this |
|
Kerry's speech next Thursday is not only important, it is critical for him to connect with listeners (NOT those of us who post here, BTW) about where he intends to lead the nation.
Jonathan Alter has a piece online at Newsweek named "Hating Bush is Not a Winning Ticket."
He's right.
There must be a million threads on DU about how much the poster hates Dubya, he is a stupid, lying, thieving war-mongering moran, etc., etc.
John Kerry wants that toned down next week, and I hope that happens.
We have been motivated by our hatred about as far as we can go. It's time to shift gears.(That's why I am going to change my sig...)
It's time to start focusing on what Democrats will DO, not how bad Republicans are.
We won't win if we don't.

The idiots on the Matthews show are hammering Kerry for his lack of 'personality'. Nothing of substance, no question of policy differences, just Kerry's 'personality' problem. Shades of Gore wearing earth tones.
They could be doing SUCH a good job on these shows by discussing policy differences - they're wider now than at any time in my life - but they harp on the trivial. And voters keep saying they don't know what Kerry stands for - watch these shows and see why. Dumbed down beyond belief.

5. The number of pundits on TV is a blight on our landscape. They |
|
are only for themselves and what can further their careers. Now, will they change when Kerry wins? Are they going to portray him as "a uniter?" Will he be "decisive?" They are able to shed their skins like the snakes they are, but will it play with another president?

6. Oh, No, They Will Suddenly Discover the Need to Be Tough |
|
Edited on Sun Jul-25-04 09:59 AM by UTUSN
Just as they have given Shrub the smoothest pass for over 4 years (starting during the Campaign), they will suddenly discover that they need to be CHALLENGING, will need to INVESTIGATE every word, will STAND UP FOR DEMOCRACY and DISCOVER THEIR SOUL.
Right now Georgie STEPANOPOULIS is doing the number on Ted KENNEDY, "Is John KERRY a (gasp!) Liberal?"

8. I feel that they have given this president so much leeway without any |
|
criticism, that I wonder if they will treat Kerry the same way. They depend on whichever the way the wind is blowing. Punditry seems to have become a career move. They are on every station, every day, and every program. They are not like a box of chocolates--we know what we are getting. Some consider themselves journalists. The word "journalist" has had new meaning since Walter Cronkite. I remember him. I remember Chet Huntley and David Brinkley. I remember Edward R. Murrow. I do not know of a single newsperson today who has the qualities of any of the above.

|
and i wont be satisfied till i get one.
i certainly haven't forgoton what happened in the 90's and especially 12-12-2000
and i know the dems bear a great deal of the RESPONCIBILITY for us being in this POSITION in the FIRST-PLACE buying into the fucking reTHUGs cartoon world view :argh:
but we must make sure that a dem gets in and hold his feet to the fire since we desperately need CHANGE and not the kind the CORPORATIONS have in mind.
they - the 'media' - may all have MAD-COW but certainly not DU and the WWW ;->

At one point, aren't voters listening to this, going to start to question JUST WHY they "don't know what Kerry stands for?" I mean aren't voters smart enough to figure out that the "librul" media ISN'T ALLOWING them to "know what Kerry stands for?" Won't the voters begin to realize that this is exactly what the Media Whores did to Gore in '00? I don't watch this crap, but I did during the campaign of '00 and while I wasn't as politically aware as I am now, I could see the bias then. It would appear to be more so now.

12. They Said the CLARKE Shop Did Not WRITE a Memo |
|
That they had a good idea, to look back (6?) months, 12 months, 18 months to capsulate the security situation was like at those points, to see what changed or didn't change, but that whatever the findings were (if they actually carried out the project) were not written down, were not in a memo or report.

11. When these idiot pundits ask the question, "Is X a liberal?", |
|
Edited on Sun Jul-25-04 10:33 AM by drscm
why doesn't the repondent ask the question, "What do you mean by the label 'liberal'?
For once, I wish one of these idiots would have to define the term if they are going to use it.
Or they can ask, "Is spending us into debt 'conservative?' Is rushing to war 'conservative?'"
