Obama: "The President has good intentions"
Edited on Sun Jul-25-04 10:08 AM by dennis4868
Thats what he said on Meet the Whores this morning to Tim Russert regarding the war. Russert showed him a qoute that Obama said months ago that "Bush and Rove took us to war because of politics." Now that he is on Meet the Whores he changes his opinion entirely. Russert asked Obama, "do you really believe that Bush sent 900 soldiers to die because of politics?" (as if that is so far stretch). Obama says no and then says that Bush has good intentions to protect our country and it was about idealogy and the poor execution of the war....but Bush has the country's best interest. Yaaaaack! I thought Obama was the last Dem around who would fight back and talk the truth! There is not one dem left who gets the attention of the national media who talks the ugly truth about this war. Drives me crazy...... :-(

Like your sig line. Democrats are silent now about Iraq, so that caught my eye.

"qui tacet consentire videtur" was my original sig line. Gov. Richardson was actually pretty good this morning addressing the Iraq issue. I hope it spreads.

Edited on Sun Jul-25-04 10:15 AM by dennis4868
during the vietnam war, "how do you tell the last soldier to die for a mistake?" Well, that could not be more true today but because Kerry does not give a shit about our soldiers and only for his political career....nothing but lies are being said about the war from both dems and repubs!

3. please let's not accept this meme about "failing to get attention"
Edited on Sun Jul-25-04 10:10 AM by librechik
this is the RW Noise Machine placing the blame on the victim for its own crimes. WE didn't fail to get attention. They are deliberately withholding coverage of Kerry and all other Dem or Progressive voices, they have ALL the power to decide who they cover and who they ignore. And we are just accepting it.

WE must force them through laws and pressure to give us the same coverage they offer the GOP freely and lavishly.

7. Im not sure the fairness doctrin is exactly whats needed.
I REALLY dont like the idea of a government agency dictating whats on my media. The results it had when it was in place was to chill the outpouring of ideas all around, so much so that most media outlets didnt find it worth the effort to even discuss politics unless they were shows specifically designed for it.

As much as I hate the enemy having so much media coverage, silencing people isnt the answer... I think most this stuff is cyclical so public opinion will eventually turn back the other way, etc...

15. Regulations and laws are annoying indeed
but when abuses occur, what lawful recourse does a citizen have if there is no law? Corporations are abusing the media and not serving the public. Yet there is little we can do, becasue their cronies in congress have made sure they can abuse with great impunity.

Since they won't police themselves as they promised when we removed the regulations, government must step in as in would in any fraud case, IMO. The market will not be public spirited voluntarily. There simply needs to be better oversight, by authorities as well as citizens.

6. That is so damn depressing.
Why, Barak? Why?

I would like to know what these good intentions are, and what is so good about them.

When this election is over, I am going to volunteer for whatever group has the best chance of changing this culture of pathetic compliance.

I think that I have to write a letter to Barak Obama. That was disgraceful.

9. The problem is....
that many dems, including Obama, say all the right things about Bush and the war to their base (that the war was a mistake and Bush lied) when they are not talking to the national media. But once they are invited to give their opinion in the mainstreem media and go on shows like Meet the Whores, they sound very different...all of a sudden Bush is a good man and with good intentions. It is only how Bush executed this war that upsets them, not why and how we got there.

Edited on Sun Jul-25-04 10:27 AM by jg82567
Russert and the others ask those kinds of questions. As soon as Obama or any other Progressive says that what many of us believe, that it WAS and continues to be all about politics. The RW/RNC w/the complete and total cooperation and complicity of the "mainstream" media, marginalizes and dismisses as "looney left" those who dare to suggest that this administration is indeed that corrupt and cynical. So, Obama and others who want to at least be taken seriously enough to get coverage that doesn't make them look ridiculous, have to be measured in how they voice their criticism. It is not fair and it is truly a double-standard because we know any Republican can get airtime on almost any talk show and use the most reckless and irresponsible language to make charges about any Democrat and they suffer no repercussions. The Dems, particularly the more liberal ones, DO NOT have this luxury. At least, not when dealing with the national media.

I question my party and its leaders, and I will continue to do so. I do believe we need to be outspoken and not let the GOP define our every move.

I have been a Democrat all my life, and I am now called hotheaded for saying we need to speak out.

Now that is just plain sad.

60. The fact that I was called a hotheaded loudmouth is scary.
I said nothing out of line, and I think questioning our leaders is healthy. I have been rude to no one. This is not a healthy thing, that people are being called names here today over questioning.

A couple of threads were out of line. My posts have not been out of line at all.

This is sort of upsetting to me that the name-calling is so important, more important than calling Bush what he is....a danger to our country. He lied in the SOTU speech. Powell lied to the UN.

How can our party in good conscience sit back and not call them on it?

14. "Meet the Whores". I love it.
It should be the official name for MTP. Did you also see how Tom Brokaw shill for Bush in this morning's program? Tim Russert interviewed him about his interview with John Kerry. I didn't see the whole part, but catched when Tom Borkaw was saying that Kerry faced a very strong candidate (Bush). Then Tim Russert was saying John Kerry must have a lot of pressure for dilivering speech on the convention. Tom Brokaw was saying he saw a lot of policitical figures fail under such pressure, for instance, Al Gore in 2000. On the other hand Governor Bush did himself a lot of good on 2000 Repub convention for he delivered a better-than-expected speech!

It was totally disgusting. Even my teenager daughter who also watched it did not belive what he said.

20. Probably several reasons for this
It's hard to actually say, Bush went to Iraq for Oil and Halliburton profits. I wouldn't expect a candidate for the senate from any state to say that, even from a state like Illinois. He did say that it was a war based on ideaology and said he wouldn't have voted for it.

Also, if he said the war was based on politics then the whole things gets messy because Kerry and Edwards both voted for the resolution.

All in all, I was very impressed with Obama. He'll do a great job at the convention.

21. It's not necessary
for any Dem (and I've seen many do it) to say that * has good intentions. Apparently, they don't want to hit too hard for fear of alienating swing voters. But all they have to say in these situations is "I honestly don't know what his motives are, and I won't speculate on them. I only know the results of his actions." Then they should go on to explain the horrible results of every action taken by the baboon. Is that so hard?

Edited on Sun Jul-25-04 11:59 AM by dennis4868
so why in the hell dont dems say that. Why is the dem party so spineless.....If I was running for senate and had to be careful what I had to say I would simply state that it is curious that the NIE pre-October 2002 regarding Iraq is very different than the October 2002 NIE. Why is that? Was there pressure from the Bush WH to change the "evidence" regarding Iraq's WMD as some on the Senate intelligence have suggested and other CIA officials? And why did Bush and the rest of his administration go above and beyond what was in any NIE regarding Saddam's WMD...i.e., massive stockpiles, 45 minutes, mushroom cloud, UEVs, saddam/911/al Qaeda connection, Saddam will give terrorist his weapons, etc... I would say that all this to me means Bush had other reasons to go to war besides "good intentions." I dont know what Bush's intentions were but I am suspicius indeed.

What is so wrong with saying the above, bringing in supporting evidence to back up what I am saying. So if any media whore/repub say that I am off the wall they have the facts that I brought out to deal with.

so I was looking forward to seeing him on MTP.

I was so disappointed in that comment, and a couple of others. It just added to my sense of discouragement that we are spinning...... spinning our wheels working so hard at spinning a message.

Obama speaks as someone who comes from the ordinary folk, and still resides with ordinary folk, so he SHOULD be able to recognize that what ordinary folk most want is to be represented by forthcoming, honest LEADERS who not only speak to what is true, but know how to lead people to understand what it means, and what needs to be done.

This has been said so many times........ in this rush to court the Independents, they are treating them like imbecils who are completely dense, and that does NOTHING to win votes.

It's all discouraging beyond belief.

But..... Obama is a good man........he's sincere

25. If you are buried in your high moral ground are you still dead?
Rant Warning!!! Stop now if your ears are sensitive...

Let's ALL take aim on our feet now--or better yet--let's form that circular firing squad that we Dems are SO well known for. Sure as hell, we get a halfway intelligent candidate capable of running a race to win--and we line up to kill the guy off before he EVER gets the chance to win.

Obama is a VERY smart man, and his credentials as a liberal are established WAY beyond what can be seen in a 12 minute interview with Russert or any other media whore.

To be honest, I listened to the MTP clip (11 minutes worth) online, and I didn't hear word ONE about Bush being a man of good intentions. Did they leave that juicy tidbit out? Did MTP find that one bit so unimportant that they played the REST of Obama's appearance and left that section out?

Is it possible that they saw it for what it was-- the high road?

Sorry, I can't muster much anger at a guy who wants to win a damn Senate race and plays it smart on national TV. Seems to me we'd be a lot happier with him in office than any GOPiglet, and THAT is all that counts. I'm VERY tired of moral victories and Dems that stick to the mantra that leave me with pigs like shrub in office after the election is over.

Obama DARED to deviate from the mantra in the interest of trying to broaden his appeal (or at least not shut down the moderate swing votes before the convention is even over) and now I see an exodus away from him...

We eat our young in the Dem party, I swear we do...

Laura

That was what he actually said... not "good intentions", I don't believe. Nonetheless, short of committing political suicide by falling into one of these RWing pundit's traps, I would certainly expect Obama and any other conscientious Democrat to stand up and be far more forthcoming and REAL than what I heard come from his mouth this morning.

I know it is difficult for a Democratic candidate to be terribly candid in this political atmosphere, but it sure would be a refreshing and reassuring thing if more would do so.

The day that a Dem leader steps up to the plate and calls out these Rethugs (and their pundit stoolies), makes some genuine comments that reflect their minds and hearts rather than their fear of losing political capital, then... and only then, will I stop criticizing them. As far as I'm concnerned they deserve the criticism if they can only play the toadie game with the Rethugs.

Obama obsolved Bush of any lies about Iraq. This is just another example of how deserving of criticism these Dem "leaders" are. It's not a matter of the Democratic base "eating their young"... it's rather a matter of holding them accountable to REAL Democratic principles and not being toadies to the right!~ That's not too much to ask IMHO.

...Obama, by being featured so prominently by the party, is PART of the national ticket. If he falls for pundit bait and makes what the SCLM will spin as a gaffe, they will try to taint Kerry/Edwards with it and the last thing Obama wants is for Kerry/Edwards to have to answer questions about why they gave such a prominent role to this "left wing extremist" who's been calling the President a liar on the morning talk shows. He's trying to help the party nationally, his role now is bigger than just winning in his own back yard and if he's not carefull w/these cutthroats in the national press, he won't win in his own back yard either. We don't need another Democratic martyr to cling to and worship with fond memories of what might have been. We need live bodies IN the Senate.

I think Karl Rove and Ed Gillespie grin and rub their hands together when they hear discourses like Obama was involved in today. I can hear them gleefully congratulating one another on just how "cowed and groveling we've got those Dems. They're really backed into a corner now, aren't they? They've really fallen into our trap. We are the masters of intimidation. See, we don't even have to lift a finger to convince the American people there's no difference in the parties... and of course you know what that means... Hah, hah, hah... they'll vote for our boy for sure!" That's more likely the dialog between those two knaves.

No I don't think these kinds of posts where disenfranchised Democrats (who really represent the party's base) speak their minds about how their weak-kneed representatives have sold us out are what are thrilling Rove and Gillespie... it's rather the way they have our Dem leaders over the proverbial barrel. They love to hear the kind of stuff Obama said today.

47. Jeezuz - what has gotten into you people?
OBama can't say the things we throw around on an Internet message board!

So he didn't say BUSH LIED.

Yeah, you're right. String him up!

Get a freaking grip. We are about to win this thing.

55. Bush lied. What's so hard about that?
If Bush fucked a ten year old boy up the ass with a hammer, somehow everybody would try to spin it.

Including these so-called Democrats.

I, and I seem to speak for a lot of others, am sick to death of this shit.

Call a spade a spade. How much more obvious can it be that Bushco is a bunch of white-collar gangsters?

"Hmm, that guy with the gun over there in the bank. He's not robbing the bank. He's simply making a deposit. He's misguided about our policy of "no guns in banks". I'm sure he means well."

Fuck that

This reactionary "high dudgeon" is damn-near laughable.

53. I'll get over it...
when we get some REAL, principled leadership by Dems who have spine and can take on the right head on, rather than walk on eggshells in fear of their political lives... by God, that's when I'll get over it!

54. Right on. Dems keep letting Repugs set the terms of the argument
over and over and over and over ......

I'm sick of this shit.

Do you see Michael Moore or Jon Stewart doing that?

Nooooooooo.

56. Are Moore and Stewart running for office?
No. So its silly to compare the comments of non politicos to that of someone who MUST win the votes of middle America if he is to win. This board is almost totally hysterical now.

62. I'm "hysterical" because I expect my "leaders" to tell the truth?
Good God.

America deserves what it gets with attitudes like this.

The strongest will win. The strongest will be them.

We are pussies.

61. For god's sake, grow up
You want purity, go live in a friggin' monastery.

We are trying to defeat Bush and elect a Democratic congress. If you don't want to be a part of the effort, because of your fantasies of your own moral perfection, just get the hell out of the way and let those of us who really want to make change in this country get the job done.

65. Al Gore's going to be the one!
*HE'LL* be the one to spout fire at the convention. The Republicans have already branded him as a loony, and he's not running for any office, so he has nothing to lose. I'll bet he'll say what we've all been thinking.

If he can give another speech like the speeches he has been giving the past year, we're in for a treat. He's been pissed off and not afraid to show it. He's at his best when he's angry and indignant.

Whether it's carried on TV is the question.

I'm also upset that Obama is so eggshelly, but I'll support him no matter what.
