well as shrubya abandoning this practice for his campaign appearances. Otherwise what's the complaint?

No the DNC should just denounce the abuse of First Amendment rights as unconstitutional and unamerican and UNDEMocratic.
Let bush and the reich huddle in fear on their own.

Let the Republicans be the party of fearmongering and constitutional rights denials.
I'm still standing by the belief that the FSZ being used at the Democratic convention is a setup for a major right wing coup. News coverage of the protestors jammed into that razorwire box, spilling and perhaps even breaking out of it, is going to overwhelm any message Democrats try to get out on the convention floor. This is a planned disaster for the Dems waiting to happen. It's not fair, it's not right, but it will happen unless the Dems get proactive against it right now.
If the Dems don't decrie this FSZ immediately and loudly, I guarantee they will be portrayed by media reports as RESPONSIBLE for the FSZ. And since this is the first time most US citizens have become aware of FSZ's, they'll see the Dems as the creators of FSZs.
The whole thing stinks, and so far the Dems are walking right into the trap.
