Granted, this has been tried before. In 2000, concerned veterans in both Texas and Alabama offered cash rewards to lure former guardmates of Mr. Bush into stepping forward, to no avail. The problem, in our view, was that these enticements weren't serious enough, that the sums offered were insulting. In contrast, we at the DTH&WP respect how inconvenient it can be to subject yourself to worldwide media scrutiny in general, and Fox News in particular, and are thus prepared to sweeten previous offers by a factor of five. 3. Does it cite his security clearances on any of the documents?

I'm not familiar with Guard or records prior to the early 80's, but personnel records ALWAYS made mention of my security clearance. I've looked on Bush's* and can't find them - perhaps a better eye than mine could spot them.

My point would be that prior to the "alabama" assignment he should have at least a Secret (though one would think higher). Following any discipline the clearance would be reduced. Find that reduction and then someone needs to ask Bush why the reduction and how that action and his previous failure to disclose makes him an able leader of the rapidly closing free world.

4. WTF - why does it show Bush's discharge effective "October 1, 1973"?

The USA Today archives of his record (http://www.usatoday.com/news/bushdocs/10-3_2000_Personnel_File.pdf - see page 24) show the effective discharge date as November 21, 1974? Does anybody have a copy of the later discharge papers?

Short recalled: "The guy was getting ready to stand up with a rocket on his shoulder, coming up. And Mr. Kerry took him out … he would have been about a 30-yard shot. Which, we were dead in the water up on the bank, point blank. If he missed us, he would have to, you know — there's no way he could miss us. He could've thrown a rock and taken me out."

SUMMARY


An examination of the Bush military files within the context of US Statutory Law, Department of Defense regulations, and Air Force policies and procedures of that era lead to a single conclusion: George W. Bush was considered a deserter by the United States Air Force.


After Bush quit TXANG, he still had nine months of his six-year military commitment left to serve. As a result, Bush became a member of the Air Force Reserves and was transferred to the authority of the Air Reserve Personnel Center (ARPC) in Denver, Colorado. Because this was supposed to be a temporary assignment, ARPC had to review Bush's records to determine where he should ultimately be assigned. That examination would have led to three conclusions: That Bush had "failed to satisfactorily participate" as defined by United States law and Air Force policy, that TXANG could not account for Bush's actions for an entire year, and that Bush's medical records were not up to date. Regardless of what actions ARPC contemplated when reviewing Bush's records, all options required that Bush be certified as physically fit to serve, or as unfit to serve. ARPC thus had to order Bush to get a physical examination, for which Bush did not show up. ARPC then designated Bush as AWOL and a "non-locatee" (i.e. a deserter) who had failed to satisfactorily participate in TXANG, and certified him for immediate induction through his local draft board. Once the Houston draft board got wind of the situation, strings were pulled; and documents were generated which directly contradict Air Force policy, and which were inconsistent with the rest of the records released by the White House.

11. What happened in April-May 1972 could be crucial

The payroll records show Bush's last day before the 6-month gap was April 16, 1972. The chronology you just put up shows Bush's first request for a transfer to Alabama as May 24, 1972. So for more than a month, Bush just kind of evaporates -- he isn't showing up in Texas but he apparently hasn't asked permission to be elsewhere, either.

This period is important, because if Bush was arrested for drug possession (leading to the apparent community service in the winter of 1973), it has to have happened just in this gap.

So the real question is, leaving military records aside, is there any evidence of what Bush was up to in this period? When did he first miss a scheduled TANG training and when did he go to Alabama?
