When Daughter Seems a Bit Too Much Like Father...Jenna
Edited on Sun Jul-25-04 04:25 PM by ElsewheresDaughter

Taking children out on
the campaign trail
should help, right?

Well, that was a fine how-do-you do. This was supposed to be the new Jenna Bush. Fresh out of college, ready to shed the "Jenna and Tonic'' image she earned as a partying undergraduate, she posed for Vogue in a couture gown and declared an interest in working with charter schools. It was all a prelude to becoming a public figure at 22 and heading out on the campaign trail for Dear Old Dad

Then last week she stuck out her tongue at reporters and photographers. The pictures whizzed around the globe

The first and perhaps only rule for children campaigning for their parents may be this: Do no harm. It is a rule that is almost impossible to violate, because merely by being on stage, most children transform their parent-candidates into softer human beings

And in fact, Ms. Bush's poke of her tongue at the media may not have done her father any harm. She probably inspired cries of "You go, girl!'' from supporters who think the president should stick his tongue out at the media once in awhile anyway.

But, her off-message gesture may also have reminded voters of her father's reputation as a frat-boy prankster, which may not be the image that his campaign wants to rekindle in a time of the war on terror.

Conan O'Brien on NBC's "Late Night" put it this way: "President Bush was so furious at Jenna's childish behavior that he called her a doodie head.''

1. Can you picture Chelsea doing something like that?
What a perfect kid she was.

2. Chelsea
really is a neat person. I read an interview on her a while back and was completely impressed with her demeanor and maturity. She's a classy gal, that's for sure.

3. Can you imagine the cruxifiction Chelsea AND her parents
Edited on Sun Jul-25-04 04:25 PM by LibertyChick
would have been subjected to had she done that?

I can just see a Bill O'Lielly episode dedicated to it: "parental values" , how the Lewinsky episode taught Chelsea about acting irrespnsibly, family values (and why the Clintons did not have them), blah, blah, blah..

With Nancy Grace screaming in the background!

EDIT: typing while pissed thinking about the hypocrisy of the press.

13. Boy, is this ever right on the money!
The "outrage" would have lasted through several news cycles had Chelsea shown such cheek. (Or tongue, as the case may be.)

but of course that would be impossible for Bush*. The Clinton's kept their daughter out of the media.

I know this is going to date me, but does anyone else remember the picture of Caroline Kennedy in the paper, when she was either in her late teens or early twenties, shooting her finger at a reporter? She turned out OK, but then Jackie Kennedy never threw her out to the public. The reporters were not invited by the Kennedy's - they are invited by the Bush's - big difference.

14. I disagree..
This is an over priveleged, rich, limousine cruising white girl that has never seen a day of toil in her entire life. For her to become indignant over picture takers and mic jockies, and worse yet, to express it as a 6 year old, really does prove her typical of the parasitic elite - blue blooded whiners with more dollars than sense.

12. The whore media spun this infantile brattishness as cute and spunky...

For God's sakes, how many 22-year olds are still stuck in the tongue-sticking-out stage, anyway? Not many, I'll bet.

Jenna is as classless as her crude dad -- another apple that didn't fall far from the tree.
