Yes, another Obama thread!
Edited on Sun Jul-25-04 05:14 PM by senseandsensibility
I watched the Obama interview on MTP this morning. I am boycotting CNN, and did not watch him with Blitzer. I was disappointed, as many DUers were, with his answers regarding *'s decision to go to war in Iraq. I DON"T THINK HE IS A TRAITOR OR EVIL. I do think he is misguided, in this instance, and that if our party takes up his refrain until the election it will cause us to lose votes. I do want to keep my emotions under control, and I have delayed posting this to enable myself to do so.

I believe that we, the grassroots of the DemocratIC Party, have a responsibility to help our officials choose the right path. I have heard some disturbing innuendo from Dems lately, hinting that we will not criticize *. I've heard it from others besides Obama, so this is not meant to single him out. However, I am afraid that it is becoming a trend. Let's try to encourage our leaders to speak out more forcefully against *. With the press in *'s pocket, we are the only voice for truth. Here is my e-mail sent to info@obamaforillinois.com

Dear Mr. Obama,
I am a lifelong Democrat and a supporter of yours. I mean you no ill will, but some of your responses on Meet The Press to questions about Bush's mendacity did not seem adequate. It is not necessary to call him a liar, as the reporter tried to trap you into doing. All you have to do is say is, " I have no idea what the President's motives were, and I don't want to speculate. I only know the results of his actions." Then go on to tell the truth about those results. PLEASE, PLEASE do not continue to prop up this failure by attributing "good intentions" to him. It's not necessary, and it only hurts the quest for truth and justice.
Sincerely,

DUers, if you agree with me, send an e-mail. Keep it polite. Remember, he is NOT the enemy.

1. Hey, you're not fun at all
c'mon, a voice of reason? Where's the fun in that?

I'm kidding of course.

I'm really glad you wrote to him.

2. Ha!
As a teacher, I have many years of experience putting the lid on others' fun. I usually get results, even if it does get to be a tiring role. Sorry DUers, I love your energy and passion! Let's just try to make it work for us this time!:yourock:

5. well, crud-a-rama!
If you're gonna go and be all sensible...... :)

Very good letter, and it's all so simple........ it sure points up just how easy it would be to actually have a spine. Or at least a few functional vertebrae. Surely they can hire you as a "Consultant for the Sensible and Reasonable".

:toast:

Oh, and while you're at it..... with your teacher experience and all..... could you please take the paste away from some of the DUers?

Thanks.

:hi:

Kanary

I'm feeling down today for some reason, and that's not a good mood to have heading into the convention. I think a lot of us are feeling the stress. So much is riding on all this! It gets overwhelming at times. You cheered me up , though.:pals:

3. En rapport
I agree.

I do believe that Barak Obama may have the temerity to pull off the unexpected. I respect his background and do hope that he does.

You are absolutely correct to say that we need more individuals to openly critique the mishandlings of this administration, but...

Obama will have a hard time acquiring office should he become too vociferous now. I would rather he played carefully and won so to become a more substantial force later.

Let's just hope his contrition is not chronic....

6. And you honestly, truly believe that having the keynote speaker
of the convention call the president of the united states an "evil traitor" would be the best thing for the democrat party right now? electorally? realistically? or, say, from a media standpoint?

You do understand that all positive convention coverage would be swamped by an army of talking heads debating "Obama- did he go too far?" "The new, extremist face of the coalition of the wild-eyed democrat party".. Then, of course, you would have the inevitable groundswell from freeperdom and the RNC, calling for Obama to be taken from his speaking role, for him to drop out of the race in IL that he almost certainly is going to win, hell, calling for his head on a plate.

Honestly, what planet are some of you living on? The guy called the president "misguided". He makes him sound like someone who needs help to tie his shoes. It is not a glowing endorsement. Okay? But, really. I don't know about you, but I'm here to win this thing and move the country in a positive direction, because I know four more years of Bush will be a disaster for my country, and my planet. I'm sorry to see that some are so obsessed with "making a point" that they're apparently blind to the reality of what we're facing here.

7. if you're talking to me, you're 100% misquoting me
I never said that Obama should say that.

I may have said that myself.

Let me write a little dialogue for Obama, okay:

OBAMA: Well, I don't think anyone, at this point in time, can disagree with the fact that the president lied. After all, it wasn't the CIA who pushed us into this war, it was George W. Bush. He needs to take responsibility for what happened, good or bad, under his leadership.

There. How's that? Is that too much to ask?

I don't think so.

9. I always find that discussions
are most productive when they're based on truth. I never called for Obama to call * an evil traitor on this thread or any other. Rather, I did the opposite. Therefore, I don't understand your criticism.
