My neice is leaving basic training with a medical discharge
from the army after serving only about a month (she got really bad tendonitis and hip fractures as a result of the training). Her mother told me that after she leaves the hospital and comes home she plans on attending college and that the army will pay for it.

This doesn't make any sense to me. I thought you had to serve a certain length of time to 'earn' college tuition.

Can someone please explain how this works?

1. Probably due to a trainign related injury
I would think there would be SOME liability on the part of the military; maybe not 4 years of college-but something.

8. Hey, I didn't want her to join to begin with, her mother did.
And even her mother is releived now that there's no chance of her daughter going to Iraq.

4. Service related injuries are like that
If they wreck your body in basic training, they'll compensate you for it by giving you benefits.
