Obama SAVAGED Bush.

Those of you who called him names earlier should be ashamed.

MSNBC replaying the show in its entireity.

Obama makes it clear that Bush doesn't know what he's doing; makes it clear that we need new leadership.

Russert tried his damnedest to bait him, and trap him.

I have never seen Obama before. He was fantastic. He was quick on his feet, classy, and eloquent. He is among the best we have.

Sorry for starting my own thread, but I thought this needed to be said without being buried in the other threads.

He had Russert stammering, and looking like a bigger fool than he usually looks like.

Those who savaged him haven't learned their lesson about "red meat." They never learn. They didn't learn from McKinney's loss in 2002, or Dean's failed primary challenge. They didn't learn from Newt Gingrinch.

McKinney, a controversial liberal Democrat who lost her seat in Congress two years ago, is on the verge of winning back her post. If she succeeds, she ought to stop off at the Oval Office to thank her unofficial political strategist, President Bush. She couldn't have won without him.

McKinney was ousted after she made incendiary remarks suggesting that President Bush had known about the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11 but did nothing to stop them so that his friends could profit from the resulting war. And that was just one example of her intemperate rhetoric. During the 2000 presidential campaign, remarks were posted on her Web site characterizing Al Gore as having a low "Negro tolerance level."

In her current campaign, McKinney tamped down her rough edges and ran as a reasonable and experienced mainstream -- if liberal -- candidate. Her father -- an equally incendiary but dumber version of McKinney known for bigoted outbursts against her opponents -- was kept out of sight, either by his daughter's newfound campaign discipline or by failing health.

McKinney also benefited from a splintered field. She was defeated two years ago by moderate Democrat Denise Majette, who decided this year to run for the U.S. Senate. With the congressional seat open in heavily Democratic territory, six Democrats sought the post.

But let's give credit where credit is due. Thanks to the machinations of the Bush White House and Halliburton, McKinney's remarks about profiteering from the Iraq war don't sound nearly as wacko as they did two years ago. One of the most riveting video clips in Michael Moore's new documentary, "Fahrenheit 9/11," shows a 2003 "Rebuilding Iraq" seminar in Arlington, Va., in which business executives drool over the opportunities to make money off the war.

P.s. Am I disappointed when our leaders fail to tell it like it is when it comes to bush and use every invective that comes to mind? For an instance I am. Always. But then I remember that we have to keep our eyes on the prize. And telling Mr. and Mrs. America what a lying, murderous, treachorous weasel * is, will not help us to obtain the prize.

Just watched it. Can't BELIEVE some of you guys are upset about that.

Eloquent, factual, down to earth. Voters tired of slash and burn politics.

One thing, psychologically that I think a lot of you are missing- regular Americans are going to have a huge problem accepting that their country did such an awful, awful thing and that they, themselves supported it. Good people who are patriotic, but ill-informed.

It was a mistake, it was misguided. Bush is an ideologue who made this mistake. Get RID of him. That's all we should care about. Let them come to the rest of the awfulness of it as they are able to.

Please, let go of some of that pride- we were right, you all were wrong stuff. What matters now is winning this election and if every Democratic representative speaks as well and as appealingly as Obama, we've got this thing, hands down.

the good. I don't remember who said that but it is apt in this case.
It usually isn't necessary to use a sledgehammer to make your point. DU is not a microcosm of the general population, there are other points of view that must be taken into account. I am not suggesting that anyone wimp out, just choose your battles wisely.

10. Russert was trying his best

to get Obama to say something about Bush. They need SOMEONE to stick their foot in their mouth so they don't have to spend all their time talking about that "boring" Democratic Convention. Who better than this "newbie" Obama. It didn't work. He was fantastic and our party is lucky to have him.

And let me tell you, this is a guy to keep your eyes on. He will go far if he keeps going the way he is going. Man, this guy can give a damn good speech! Just hope it's not all talk and no show.
