Whose Convention Speech are you looking forward to the most?
There really are a ton of great speakers this year. It's like a Lolapalooza of great Democrats.

But, if I had to narrow it down to a few I'm really anticipating, it would be:

Monday, July 26
President Clinton (he has said some brilliant things about politics in the last few years which have gone largely unnoticed -- I expect this speech to be genius)
Sen. Hillary Clinton (I just plain like her)
Rep. Kendrick Meek, Fla. (this guy has been bulding momentum the last couple years, and I'm eager to see him at what will surely be looked back on as 'just the beginning')

Tuesday, July 27
Barack Obama, a state Senator from Illinois and U.S. Senate candidate (repeat what I said about Meek and multiply by a 1000)
Ron Reagan (not for the politics so much as for the spectacle -- I've always loved this guy's humorous perspective on his heritage, and it will be fascinating to see him on stage at the convention)
Ilana Wexler, 13-Year-Old founder of Kids for Kerry (for the cuteness factor)

Wednesday, July 28
John Edwards (I expect this speech to strike exactly the right chord)
Elizabeth Edwards (listening to her talk about politics is like listening to myself think -- I don't know if there has been another person I've heard talk about politics in recent years who thinks so much like I do)
Cate Edwards (after reading an interview with her in her college paper, I'm intrigued -- she seems incredibly level-headed)
Gov. Jennifer Granholm, Mich. (few things give me more comfort about the Democratic Party being in good hands and moving in the right direction as listening to Jennifer G. talk about politics)

Thursday, July 29
John Kerry
Rep. Louise Slaughter, N.Y (I have always liked her -- she has a district that's a little city and a little country, and manages to win it as a Dem -- also, anybody who can get Richard Geere to canvas and make calls has got to be doing something right)
Gov. Mark Warner, Va. (want to confirm the rumors that this guy is good)

1. Clinton, Obama, Reagan, Edwards, and Kerry
Edited on Mon Jul-26-04 03:01 AM by JI7
look forward to others also. but look especially to the ones i mention because clinton is always good and i thought his speech at the unity dinner in support of kerry was one of the best cases ever made for kerry for president. obama because he is the future of the party and it's the keynote and while i have heard a lot about him i never really heard from him. Reagan because i want to see how he comes across and he is the son of the most loved President on the republican side who just recently died.

edwards and kerry for obvious reasons.

5. The Clintons
They are my idols, and I really want to hear them speak because they always, always calm my fears and give me hope. That's probably why I like Kerry and Edwards too.

8. Can I see the complete list?
Slaughter represents I think the Buffalo area. Good lady, early backer of Kerry too with a strong voting record. Warner is pretty good, he was able to appeal to rural voters here and that was a large factor in his win against Mark Earley.

9. The link in the OP has a list.

Louise's district is Rochester and a lot of farmland.

Jack Quinn's (IIRC) has the Buffalo suburbs and west up to Slaughter's district.

14. Ilana Wexler

Not for me, personally, but for my daughter, who is 14. She's becoming an activist and is learning the hard lesson of resistance. During her last months of school she was bombarded with the notion, by her freakin' teachers, that she's a child and so has no real rights, no actual voice, and should just not speak until spoken to. And people wonder why kids show such a huge lack of respect for authority figures.

Anyway, I want her to see someone her age standing up there with a voice and being applauded by thousands of people.

17. From my district,
Tammy Baldwin, U.S. Representative from Wisconsin, on tap tonight. She'll be addressing health care and she's dynamite. I'm also interested in what Max Cleland, the very last speaker, has to say. Hopefully, he'll bash those who question the patriotism of those who speak out against the bad policies of the Bush* administration.

18. Kucinich, and
whoever else I happen to catch. And Kerry/Edwards, of course!

Anybody know what the "prime time" speaking schedule is? It's a long list of speakers for each day; what time do they start? (Pacific Coast Time)

22. John Kerry
The only thing holding Kerry back in the polls is that people haven't met him yet. No one likes Bush anymore, but they aren't sure about Kerry. Kerry has to prove he's a good guy and a capable candidate, and Bush's support begins to disappear.

I can't wait for that speech. The others are just the opening acts.

25. It's my list of people I'm looking forward to hearing.
I heard ALOT from Dean during the primaries and I think I know what he's going to say.

I love Al Sharpton, but I'm not suffering from Al withdrawal so he hasn't made the list either.

27. It was very short. He talked about Kerry-Edwards firing up the kids.
And they had some MTV-short film after him, and then a guy headed to Harvard Law who won an essay contest. His speech was very much meant to transition to the youth segment of the show.

It was good to see him though. He was fired up and had a great stage presense. He looks good and sounds good. I'd love to more of him.
