Need help in "F-9/11 Deceits" debunking
Typical situation. Friend says "F-9/11 is full of lies, and here's one..."

This time, it's the "Now watch this drive" scene. Friend says Mickey Moore played it out as an Al Qaeda thang, but it was really about Israel. Hence, Moore lies.

I haven't seen the movie yet (I live in Australia. It's only days away!), so I can't respond. What can I say?

P.S. a link to a dedicated thread addressing situations like these would help greatly.

1. How I handle it
"F 9-11 is full of lies ... Michael Moore is a traitor!"

"When did you see the movie?"

"I didn't have to see it, d00d."

"Nope. Didn't think so. Well, feel free to bend my ear again when you get some opinions of your own."

4. I knew of that link, but thanks for reminding me to look there.
I don't have time right now to search out that "watch my drive" bit, but this is what an initial Google-search gave me: "Am I the only one disturbed by Bush's abrupt change from talking about terrosists to making a pitch for his golf skills in the same breath?"

That so-called "debunking" sounds like a Red Herring, and deliberately evades the point that Michael Moore was making. The above quote gets to it though.

5. Thanks for that pointer
I know about his site but while I was there I noticed the quote page, where there's a quote from Mario Cuomo.

Which works very well for me, because I've been referring to interesting quotes about F9/11 routinely on my weblog, and I'm also planning to do a post there today about Mario Cuomo and his 1984 Democratic Convention address.

Cheers!

8. Linda Ronstadt?
From michaelmoore.com:

Linda Ronstadt: "I've been dedicating 'Desperado' every night to Michael Moore, trying to get people to go see Fahrenheit 9/11." (Las Vegas Review-Journal, 7/16)

So I guess that whole Aladdin hoo-haw was actually old news?

3. How is it played out as an Al Qaeda thing?
Many of these 'deceits' are simply people projecting their own unfavorable interpretations onto Michael Moore. Really, the power of the scene has to do with the crazy juxtaposition of calling on all leaders to do whatever is in their power to stop terror, and then being on vacation and golfing himself. I don't see why it makes a difference which terrorists he refers to, unless Michael Moore incorrectly identifies them--so long as they are terrorists, his point remains valid.

6. Last I knew
MM doesn't ever say "Now here's President Bush talking about Al Qaeda!" I think he just plays the clip. If that's misleading, they need a fucking brain.

7. Debunking '59 Deceits in Fahrenheit 9/11'
A response to Dave Kopel.

Dave Kopel, research director at The Independence Institute, has a very different take. No surprise since the institute is a “market-oriented” organization funded in part by the rightwing Castle Rock Foundation, a creation of the Coors brewing dynasty based in Golden, Colorado.

On July 5, Kosopolitan Anton Sirius began debunking Kopel’s analysis in a series of his Diaries. He’s only finished 49 of Kopel’s 59, but even before his task is completed, I think Sirius’s prodigious efforts provide an excellent jumping off point for a real discussion of Moore’s film, as opposed to the undiluted adoration he’s received from some quarters and the excoriation he’s received elsewhere

9. The scene that said it all about Bush...
was where he was speaking at a fund raiser and said something like, Well, you're all here today, the "Have's and the Have-more's"....some call you the elites, I call you my Base....
That's it in a nutshell; those are the folks George W. Bush is going to take care of and they do not include the average citizen, let alone the poor....

11. I agree-there were audible groans in the audience
when he said that. It really was disgusting...
