Politicians, actors in Fenway spotlight (Some Great Quotes)
http://www.boston.com/ae/celebrity/articles/2004/07/26/politicians_actors_in_fenway_spotlight/

Before the game, Senator Christopher Dodd of Connecticut hosted a party in the new seating area atop the right-field roof. And a handful of celebrities such as Keith, who played opposite Richard Gere as a would-be naval aviator in ''An Officer and a Gentleman," stood on the field watching batting practice.

Keith, a Yankees fan despite growing up and living in Tennessee, was making his first visit to Fenway and a Democratic convention. Despite the festive atmosphere, he did not hesitate to offer his unvarnished political assessment when asked why he was in town.

''I've been a Democrat all my life, but with this president in office, I'd be a Democrat even if I wasn't. This is the worst situation we've been in since the Civil War," he said.

''This is the way to have a convention," said Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont as he stood on the field before the game, sporting a Red Sox cap. ''I'd just as soon stay here and endorse John right here."
