Something to know about the Paper who THK told to Shove
It is a virulent right-wing rag and it is based out of my home county, Westmoreland, here in PA.

EVERY Democrat in our area knows it is a right-wing freak paper. Mr. Scaife, trust fund baby, owns and operates it. He guides it based on his own interests. He hates the Pirate owner...so he only prints unfavorable info on the guy (McClatchy is his name, probably spelled wrong).

He hated Gore so he wouldn't let them put anything positive or objective in his paper.

He is the one who funded Troopergate and all the crap against the Clintons. The man is a raging maniac.

His paper lies, distorts and misrepresents.

My sister is a local official and she has stopped responding to their calls about issues because they consistently misquote her...so what does that say about this paper?

1. by the way the Pittsburgh Channel has a "reporter" Honsberger who
has a picture of John Kerry with a big slash through the picture...how is that objective reporting and journalism?

2. This "paper" also printed blatant lies about...
the enactment of a statewide Building Code- all at the last minute, which helped a reactionary set of 'amendments'. The code was cruising along, after five years of preparation, and, suddenly, fairly substantial parts of it were repealed. State Senator Kuckovitch and Scaife's editors were instrumental in this. (If we dig just a little, I'd bet we'd find that Scaife supports ($$$$$$$) the Senator)

Our local builders' association president (who is possibly to the right of Scaife) kept asking for an opportunity to rebut the papers' features, and was refused.

I think you have no room to talk...

Kukovich is a decent and good legislator and he has himself been targeted by Scaife money so clearly you don't know much about him.

In fact I have the brochure about this legislation and Senator Kukovich's position appears valid.

refused to endorse * last week.

Scaife and Kukovich are on the same side relative to the code- distributing untruths about what it would and would not causee for homeowners.

I was not aware that Mr. Kukovich was not this way. I heard him stating complete untruths about the code on WDUQ a few weeks ago, and couldn't believe that a Dem would say such untruths. His position sounded so much like a Rethug/ Libertarian state of mind, I assumed. We know what assume spells. Sorry.

You are right. There are only two Dems on our local Board, and most of the rest are rather right.

5. Here is Kukovich's link regarding the code
http://www.kukovich.org/intros/070604.html

I can't find the brochure in my cluttered office but eventually I will.

7. A couple points, then I have to get to work
<snip>

"The Kukovich compromise would exempt residential non-structural work and recreational buildings such as hunting and fishing cabins, and would institute other changes aimed at making the code less burdensome on homeowners.

While far more needs to be done, these changes will shield homeowners from costly reviews and inspections when they are making minor repairs and alterations to their home," Kukovich said. "At the same time, this statewide code will still protect Pennsylvania families and emergency responders from faulty and substandard construction work."

<snip>

The repairs he cited on the WDUQ interview were things like moving a sink and changing countertops. These were never included in the inspection schedule.

A hunting camp that is no longer covered by the code has no limitations on its size, or frequency of use. There are some pretty big 'camps' in the hunting areas I live near, which can hold quite a few people. Why should these be exempt?

I appreciate the opportunity for dialog. Thank you.

6. I'd like to see a direct quote of what he said to her
They're only paraphasing -- he "questioned her about what she meant" or something. I suspect it went beyond a polite, "What did you mean by...?"

I watched it on Channel 4 this morning and it came across something like this:

Him: mumble mumble UNAMERICAN.

Teresa: I didn't say that!

11. the paper we love to aggravate
when they call us. My husb. had fun for year asking the sales people ( we would never subscribe to that paper although we have had friends who wrote for it who were quite liberal)if they knew who owned it and what his beliefs were. We had a lof of fun with that. We also know other people who love to antagonize their sales drones. ( not their fault, well, but people should know who they are working for!)

12. I do the same thing
..."No, I won't subscribe and give Scaife any of my money"..

"No, tell Mr. Scaife that his right-wing rag isn't fit for bird cages"...I could go on forever.
