Kerry's wife tells questioner to ‘shove it’
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5516476/?GT1=4244

Minutes later, Colin McNickle, the editorial page editor of the conservative Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, questioned her on what she meant by the term “un-American,” according to a tape of the encounter recorded by Pittsburgh television station WTAE.

Heinz Kerry said, “I didn’t say that” several times to McNickle. She then turned to confer with Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell and others. When she faced McNickle again a short time later, he continued to question her, and she replied, “You said something I didn’t say. Now shove it.”

:toast: to our next feisty First Lady!

1. I love her
Can you imagine how the RW is going to react to her? Their feelings for Hillary will be affection by comparison.

5. Oh, balls. Just ask the morons if they'd prefer it if she'd
quoted their own vice president, or even the little tin Jesus they worship in the White House.

2. She did say it ....
It is clear she said it ...

The problem is NOT 'saying it', which was appropriate in my view ...

The problem is denying it .... why ? ...

This is a problem of spine, of backbone ...

IF you are going to say something, believe in it ....

IF you believe in something enough to say it: then BACK IT UP ....

These were careless words by Teresa .... she needs to get sharp, and stay right ...

4. but we are only getting the paraphrased conversation
not the real conversation...so now it is a "he said/she said"...

It could be that she is even referring to past cases where this editorial writer misquoted her. The Trib has been going after her with knives drawn, going even so far to say that the Heinz Endowment is funding all kinds of stuff that it is not just to discredit Heinz and Kerry.

I live in Westmoreland County PA where that paper is published and it is a rag you wouldn't even wrap a fish in.

6. I saw enough this morning ....
from the TV cameras, which are not part of a newspaper operation ...

She clearly used the phrase 'un-american' ....

Let's make this clear: I AGREE with her use of that phrase ....

I DISAGREE with her denial: I think it served no good purpose ... and is clearly wrong ...

WHATEVER else was spoken, whatever else may have been discussed: She used the phrase, then denied it ...

She needs to be faster and more thoughtful on her feet, and NOT be afraid to 1) speak her mind ... and 2) DEFEND what she speaks ...

If one isnt willing to stand up for thier own words, then perhaps one shouldnt say those words ....

8. she wasn't denying using the term itself
the guy implied she said something specific was unamerican which she never did. i think he tried to make it sound as if the conventions or voting or some other similar thing was unamerican. that's why she kept saying i never said "that" . by "that" she meant his interpretation of it.

15. I agree . . .
I think her comment was that campaigns have become dirty & un-American, but she definitely used the phrase un-American. And regardless of how the reporter interpreted it, or what exactly he was asking, she owed him more courtesy than getting snippy with him & denying what she said.

11. Before you condemn her . .
The story says:

Minutes later, Colin McNickle, the editorial page editor of the conservative Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, questioned her on what she meant by the term “un-American,” according to a tape of the encounter recorded by Pittsburgh television station WTAE.

Notice that they did not quote her use of the phrase. That would have provided context. Did she say Republicans are un-American? Did she say lying about reasons to go to war is un-American? We don't know from the story and I suspect there is a reason for that. In context it probably made complete sense.

Also, they are even paraphrasing the question he asked.

Do you know the full context?

12. I heartily disapprove of what Theresa Heinz Kerry did
What she should have done was kneed him in the groin and stomped on his toes.

14. I can't comment on the specifics...
...because I don't know any, but I am glad she is putting reporters in their place.

I'd quickly come out with a spin, admitting that she had made the comment about certain people being "un-American", followed by telling everyone how exhausting it is giving so many speechs, and that she made a mistake. THEN following that up by telling everyone how The PT-R has been treating her and her family, and how that reporter was "harassing" her. Painting it to look like she is both a victim and a heroine. (Which she is.)

Sounds like something I would say to a reporter whose brain is next to their anal sphincter.

Sheeesh. Of course he confides that he's heard the campaign could be just "one or two Teresa comments away from a freefall..."
