Okay, so I am doing research on a Law Enforcement
topic for a client, I come across this 'Police' magazine site. Go into the forums because I am looking for a specific topic. There is a poll on the front page re: Kerry vs. Bu$h.

Are police just generally out to breakfast/lunch or what? 81% of those polled went for B-C. Even though the moron-in-chief has cut funds, failed to deliver goods to local police forces. Must be something that appeals to their testosterone levels?

The thing that REALLY made my skin crawl was a poster who said 'some punk should do us all a favor and knife Kerry.' I replied and told the jerk that I reported him to DHS, which I might just do!

1. seems like there is two kinds of police

one kind does police work because they want to help people and they only use violence if actually necessary

the other kind (as they have been seen and heard saying on the TV Cops show) love the adrenalin rush, seek night duty, and love the violence. they are not polite to citizens in any way.

and they are our employees. we need to choose better managers who won't get hoodwinked by corps. or politicians.

2. Research the authoritarian aspect of a policeman's psychological profile
Have you ever seen their belt buckles? Usually it says "Serve and Protect."

Bwahahahahahaha.

Hey, I like cops as a general rule, but I've sure met some dillies in my life who like nothing better than to throw their weight around. Scary creatures. Those are the ones who probably voted in that poll.

And, yes, you should report that poster. Threats are to be taken very, very seriously. It's against the law to incite someone to violence, and if a cop is saying that, some "punk" just might decide he'll get away with it.

Link to the site, please?

3. Aside from the simple fact that...
a lot of cops just aren't too bright, they have managed to fall into the "soft on crime" crap. Democrats are seen to be the bad boys who let the felons out after the selfless boys in blue risk their lives to catch them.

Most cops I know tend to be cynical. Their job may be intended to help people, but they tend to see only the seamier side of life. They're the ones who are first to see the bloody mess at car wrecks and violent crime, the ones who are stuck dealing with domestic disputes when evrything else breaks down, the ones who have to take down drunks and gang members, break up fights, and all the other shit none of us wants to do. The "civilians" they see most often are either bitching about something or sleazebags like pimps and dealers.

Not the sort of life that fosters idealism, and falls right into the simplistic wingnut talk.

5. In my experience, most of the people on law enforcement boards...
...are not involved with law enforcement at all -- they're 'wannabes'.

If it's an official board for a fraternal organization or union, it's a different situation, but I'd bet most cops on that board are not actually cops at all if it's a non-affliated 'Police' site.
