Could THIS be our "October Surprise"?
Okay, we've all heard repeatedly about the possibility of an early October Surprise, and speculated that it might mean anything from the "capture" of OBL to a "foiled terrorist incident" at the Dem Convention.

What if it's something different?

What if it's an incident at the Republican Convention?

Think about it. It would be close enough to the election to still possibly affect the outcome. It would defuse much of the criticism that would ensue if there were an incident at OUR convention. It would enable Bushco to say, "Look, we're not playing favorites, we protected the Democrats, even though they all hate us. Yet WE suffered from the terrorists."

Yup. Bushco wouldn't stop at sacrificing some of their own party members (especially some of the less cooperative Rethugs; and wouldn't someone like John McCain far better suit their purposes as a martyred war-hero, rather than as an internal Republican dissenter?) for the sake of this upcoming election. After all, they started an unnecessary war and have killed 900 Americans and untold numbers of Iraqis simply to complete a family vendetta and enrich supporters! They are not beneath THIS!

Another positive about this scenario for them: they get to say, "SEE! The terrorists don't want Bush re-elected, they favor Kerry! And they're trying to influence elections like they did in Spain!" In their minds (and that of many Americans, since the media would spin it positively for Shrub) it would also justify the Patriot Act, the terror alert system, and pretty much everything else they're taking heat for right now.

I think we ought to start telling everyone we know RIGHT NOW, that we would be VERY SUSPICIOUS of ANY so-called terrorist incident that may happen in NYC at the Republican convention.

Otherwise, if it were to happen (and I KNOW that Rove and Co have probably had contingency plans for this for some time), it would mean defeat for us in November.

1. I've thought of this too.
An attack at the DNC would look like the "terra-ists" were afraid of Kerry becoming president - an attack on the RNC will look like they are (whoever they are) going after Bush*. - Making Bushie appear to be the one the terrorists fear.

2. I've thought this myself
I've also thought that they might take it a step further and take out Bush with the "terra" attack. This generates extreme sympathy for their side while simultaneously eliminating the incumbent liability, who can then be replaced by a more reliable puppet--Santorum, for instance.

4. After Dallas '63, many Americans blamed the city, and it didn't recover...
...until the Cowboys started winning superbowls in the 70s.

If something happened in NYC, I suspect that it would encourage the Red vs Blue divide in America.

6. well if you're a MIHOPer..
.. an attack on the repub convention would certainly fall into the pattern of "attacking their own" to further their agenda.
