1. Sorry to tell you this, but--
I have relatives in Texas and Oklahoma who insist that Jimmy Carter "ruined this country". Something about lines at gas pumps...

Go figure.

20. I think Carter is amazing!
A truly wonderful, gracious human being, dedicated to peace in this old world--in my mind, just what a professing Christian man should be. Truly lives his faith!

Unfortunately, my Texas/OK relatives won't change their minds, but I don't let it bother me. I'm proud Carter was once our president, and can't tell you how sick I was when he lost the election to Reagan. I was profoundly disappointed in my fellow Americans. Sometimes I think about how much different things would be if Carter had served a second term. When he received the Nobel Peace Prize, I sent him an e-mail of congratulations. He richly deserved that one!

I also liked Bill Clinton, though of course not everything he did. But Carter remains a hero in my eyes.

Bush Must Go!!!

14. He needs to stand up for himself
Edited on Mon Jul-26-04 02:44 PM by snowFLAKE
And point out how it has himself, not Mr. Reagan, who drew the Soviets into the Afghan Trap and thereby hastened the demise of the USSR.

He needs to forcefully point out that it was himself, and not the Republicans who began the tricky dealings with the Mujahideen that ultimately led to 9-11 and the current flowering of (some would say mindless) patriotism and unity as the USA stands tall against all the girlie-men, cheese-eating-surrender-monkey type nations this planet is infested with.

Finally, he needs to point out his credentials as a "Born Again Christian" - proudly stated in advance of the right-wingers who have since hijacked this type of display of religiosity to great political advantage.

21. snowFLAKE, you put that very well!
And I agree with you. Jimmy's faith translates into action, and while he never used the term "Compassionate Liberal", he certainly is one. God continues to bless and use him. May it always be so!

Welcome to DU!!

2. I saw somewhere
Carter being described as "the best ex-president".
People feel a lot better about him now then they did when he was in the WH.

He just said Bush told falsehoods
Judi was incredulous! She had to ask if he was accusing Bush of lying. Carter said he didn't know if it was intentional and wasn't up to him to decide, but lies were told.

8. Excellent appearance by Carter.
Called Bush a liar.

Talked up Kerry's service.

Made the point that Dems will be competitive in the South.

Even flustered Judy after calling Bush a liar ("Do you really think the President is a liar?")

15. incognito - i think youre great. may i ask what you meant: "ex-vp"?
im not picking, im pretty new here on du and its hard to keep up with all the acronyms and abbreviations
so i was wondering if this may have meant something else or was it just a typo?!

and i totally agree. thats what i was saying earlier - this man works so hard for this country and he does it locally and around the world.
i think everyone could (should) respect this man greatly

19. Yeah, he's still my favorite Prez
which shows me again why I'm too good for this country. Yeah, this country thinks that Ronald Reagan should be a saint and Carter ruined things. Why I'm I here? Now, I remember why I spent a few years thinking of living overseas.
