New South Park movie may be right wing attack just before election?
They are rushing to get this movie out before the election. Here is a quote from a tour of the set:

Team America: World Police

Then there’s the film’s main bad guy, Kim Jong Il, the “power-mad dictator” who may be selling Weapons of Mass Destruction to terrorists.

The most remarkable head sculpts belong to the other bad guys in the film. “Actually,” said Trey, “they’re not bad. They’re just really really stupid and misguided.” They’re an organization of Hollywood liberals who are determined to stop Team America from interfering in the affairs of international politics. Alec Baldwin, Susan Sarandon, Sean Penn, and a permanently mustard-stained Michael Moore are just a few of the celebrities who are going to feel well and truly roasted when they see this film. Even seeing the heads without the film’s puppeteers bringing them to life, they are frighteningly accurate and bitingly funny.

The South Park guys are known to lean to the right, but they claim to be "libertarian" so there is some hope that they may go after Bush too. So far, all of the reports I have read have only talked about bashing "liberals" and "terrorists", nothing about even questioning right wing leaders or policies.

It will be interesting to see if this movie is fair and balanced or if it is a Bush campaign ad.

2. It probably wont make a differentce in the election.
It will skewer everything it touches, it will be anti-liberal elite, but also anti-establishment.

It is unfortunate that these guys have such stupid views of liberalism, considering how talented they are, but I dont worry about this.

7. yep, they represent an odd political group
they are obviously liberals. But the nature of society has stigmatized being liberal. They are more interested in being hip and independent than any particular ethos though.

At this point libertarianism is the hip detached choice. Thus you see a lot of young libertarians, and they get sucked into conservatism through that.

24. The FReeps seem to like it enough -
Do a search on South Park and you'll get a good number of threads listed with most of them complimenting the show. For the most part, they are pretty favorable to the Simpsons as well.

It seems as long as the show skewers both sides of the spectrum they don't have any major issues with it.

but not Bruce Willis, Dennis Miller, Kelsey Grammer, Ted Nugent,
Tom Selleck and all the wingnut celebs.

How is it that people like Bruce Willis aren't the "Hollywood elite"? Hmm. Could it be... hypocrasy? Only the liberal celebrities are part of the Hollywood elite to these hypocritical assholes.

I'm very disappointed in Parker & Stone. I've always thought they were really smart. I'm disappointed that they are buying into the neocon foreign policy agenda.

"saw some of the other sets as well. Various sections of Kim Jong Il’s palace were still standing, but I didn’t get to see his bedroom where he evidently belts out his melancholy musical number, “I’m Ronery.”"

Hallelujah! It does!

See, "I'm Ronery" - isn't that HILARIOUS! That's what happens when a certain kind of furriner tries to say "I'm Lonely" - HA HA AH HA AH HA. Ha. Ha.

I used to like South Park, but the whole thing got pretty stale. I can't stand the sound of their voices these days, which probably grate even them. I'm sure they sometimes have horrible nightmares of still doing Cartman's voice at age 66 at conventions.

Doing a THUNDERBIRDS thing sounds fun, but surely there are better targets for satire these days than Susan Sarandon and Michael Moore.

Like, o, I dunno... who was that guy in power? I forget.

15. Matt and Trey are genius comedians, but ignorant on politics
They're a product of their high school, which, if anyone bases their world view on what they learned in high school, you're bound to have some misguided opinions on social and political matters. Many of the episodes have tremendously exaggerated portrayals of traditional liberal positions, showing their rampant ignorance on important cultural/social issues (environment, smoking, corporations, taxes).

Regardless, I love South Park so much, I'd see the movie no matter what.

31. Yes, and if you remember at the end of the episode
we learn that Saddam was building WMDs in heaven. I actually just wrote a partial list of the times that Stone and Parker have carried the Rights message
Right Wing Stances in South Park
1)Anti-sexual harassment laws–Sexual Harassment Panda
2)Anti-hate crimes legislation – Cartmans Silly Little Hate Crime
3)Anti-environmentalism – rainforest Schmainforest
4)Anti-global warming – Terrance & Garfunkel
5)Anti-stem cell therapy – Krazy Kripples
6)Marijuana criminalization is fault of left – Future self and me
7)Anti-boycott of scouts for gay discrimination –
8)Compared Iraq War to American Revolutionary War – I’m a Little Bit Country
9)Giant Corporations are good – Underpants Gnomes
10) Anti-preservation of endangered species – Jakavosours
11) Pro-tobacco company -
Sorry if I can't remember the names of a few of the episodes, but the idea that they are an equal opportunity satirists is laughable at best. They are conservative humorists who very rarely say anything negative about the Republican Party. They are funny, which is why what they do is so terrible as they are purposely misinforming the youth of America and perparing them for Republican indoctrination.

even as they destroy it by rendering it ridiculous.

If you really think "underwear gnomes" carry the message that "Giant Corporations are good" then you just don't get it.

Trust me on this one. I'm a professional satirist.

45. I don't know...
They poked a lot of fun at the underpants gnomes, and made Harbucks appear completely sleazy, but at the end during the sober "This is the message" part of the show they make a number of claims which I don't think were ever meant to be satire. First they said the giant corp(Harbucks) makes a better product than it's small business competitor. They then said that since Big Business is just a successful small business, we shouldn't begrudge them their unchecked market power. They also said that Big Business provided all of the things we enjoy in this country, so we should be thankful to them. If you think any of that was satirical, I'd like to hear how because to my untrained ears it seemed like it came from the GOP platform.

57. The problem I have with their satire is lack of focus
They can be quite funny, but I get the message as "conservatives are religious nuts", "liberals are politically correct wet blankets" - the "in general, all politics or civic engagement is equally ridiculous" meme. And the trouble with that, is that it supports the status quo by default. But, financially, they do alright by the status quo, so maybe that is not a surprise.
