1. Barney Franks got it right that it's more fear of Bush policies
I was invited by a relative to have dinner with her and a group of 80 to 90 year olds in an assisted living facility last weekend. They were all fired up about the importance of getting Bush out of power before he can screw up another 4 years with his reckless policies.

2. Hate defined
"To feel animosity or hostility toward, to detest." Yep, I really do detest Bush*, Cheney, Asscroft, Rumsfeld, Rice and the rest of the rotten bunch.

over the world. We oughta thank Bush and his neoconmen for being such effective antagonists. They stirred the pot and we discovered all the sludge that had sunk to the bottom. Well, it's now dredged to the top and it ain't pretty or tasteful. It's rancid.

11. I had long thought if the far right ever got control of all the levers of
power, they would muck it up so badly that they would ruin the two-party system and specifically the Republican Party possibly for ever. W has mucked it up much worse in every respect than I ever dreamed possible: the environment; fiscal and tax policies creating and massive budget deficits; almost solely extreme ideologues being appointed to the Federal bench; the economy, the job market, the stock markets, the capital markets, and value of the dollar; the endangerment of much of the Federal safety net and likely Social Security and Medicare down the line; and the dissing of the rule of law, civil liberties, the UN, international laws and treaties, our allies, world order, much of the rest of the world, and world opinion and good will. Yet, he might win and most surely will run close enough for the election to again be stolen, all of which IMHO are much more an indictment of the mainstream media and the American people in general than of him, his policies, and pre-emptive war(s).

4. Hate is a Republican Family Value
We have to be careful not to fall into the Bush bashing trap and to give the repugs ammo on the grounds that we hate Bush. The repugs live in a world where hate and paranoia reign. We are better than the repugs and do not want to make their mistakes.

I like the concept of keeping the message positive. Remember, the key thing here is to show that Senator Kerry is ready to be president.

5. They always quote the least articulate.
Edited on Mon Jul-26-04 04:58 PM by Mike Niendorff
case in point:

----

"Absolutely," said Ernie Esposito, a delegate from Johnston, Pa. "He's going around telling everybody the economy is great. How can it be great when there are 17 percent more food pantries now than they ever had - 35 million people hungry, starving of hunger."

-----

Now, can anyone explain why a journalist would pick out this particular quote and decide, "yeah, that really captures what these people are trying to say"?

13. Having been ungrammatically misquoted in the newspaper twice myself,
I tend to view quotes like this one with a large grain of salt. Since the comments I made were televised on the local government affairs channel, I was able to make sure that I did not make such a glaring error. I didn't. The reporter did.

Thus, it is very possible that the quoted person spoke grammatically and the reporter misquoted him. Possibly by writing notes that left out a portion of his remarks, making two or more sentences into one.

6. The right is trying to tag the left with the term "hate"
Typically, the powers of privilege and dominance are trying to steal an important word and hijack it. The spiritual mechanism of conservatism is selfishness, and its prime activities are hating, marginalization and demonizing.

Remember that ad from the "Club for Growth" with the the crabby old couple spewing acidic hatred at anyone who's unwholesome or different? That's the hatred of the right, and we have to force the issue to make it obvious to the world that they're the haters.

7. He IS hated and
not by just US. I can't remember hating a president as much as I hate the idiot-in-chief. It's good to know I'm not alone. ;) :toast:

...corrupt the Dem's message of hope by characterizing it as hate.

12. The Dems
The can stop talking about the illegal invasion of Iraq and the Occupation, The Patriot Acts, the System wide policy of Torture, Secret Prisons and the degradation of the Environment. They can deny that the NeoFascists and Christian Right have successfuly managed a coup of the Republican Party. The can deny that they loath GW, Cheney, Rumsfailed and the rest of the scum that siezed power. I won't deny any of it!!!

14. One of the best articles I've seen on the subject.
Some articles on hating Bush just treat it like a mystery.

That article lists some of the reasons many people hate Bush: the stolen election of 2000, the Iraq War, and the torture of prisoners.
