Are the Dems under seige by the media today?
There are a lot of threads here that are pissed at the "media." Is this legit? Is it wide spread? How much attention is the "truth squad" getting. Are there cameras with them?

1. The second highest headline on the front of Yahoo.com right now
GOP contends Democrats reinventing Kerry

http://www.yahoo.com/

Talking points reported as headline news equal with the convention coverage.

What are the odds that Democratic talking points will get a full front page headline story on the first day of the Republican convention?

2. I think it is both...
whoring for the Republicans and trying to stir up some controversy for ratings. Either way, it is wrong.

3. they won't shut up
about how hard the Democrats are trying to "tone down the Bush-bashing" ... this drives me crazy ... if the speakers all went up and tore Bush apart, we'd never hear the end of how Democrats are to blame for the lack of civility in politics and how wrong they are to pick on the president like that (while we're "at war", of course) ... but when the Democrats try to promote a positive, optimistic message (in line with "rejecting the tired old negative politics of the past"), the media rip them over that too ... the implied message seems to be that Democrats have spent 3 1/2 years unfairly attacking Bush and now that they're getting national exposure during the convention, they're misrepresenting themselves by "pretending" to have a positive message, cozying up to the moderate swing voters, politics as usual ... it's really sickening how the media take the RW talking points as the basis for how they report everything ... (do you really think that if the Republicans actually went crazy and decided to promote a positive message that the media would be all over them at every second wanting to know why they're not engaging in more "Kerry-bashing"? I think not)

MSNBC is as bad as FOX today, and I read earlier that CNN is also bashing Kerry.

6. um ... "on paper"?
on paper, in person, and in every other way ... he's a smart and decent human being whereas Bush is not ... as Carville was saying over and over earlier to piss off Novak, "We've got the better man."

7. I agree, but it was nice to hear from an MSNBC employee
sticking up for Kerry for once. I usually defend Matthews, but he has been sickening the last few days.

9. MSNBC's Coverage Has Been The Best
Tweety aside...they just had Ron Reagan with Michael Moore for several long segments and have focused on the messages of the convention far better than either CNNservative or Faux. They haven't spent all day on the "Shove It" story or second guessing Hillary's motives. It's the best of a bad bunch.

Kinda says how far CNNservative has fallen if it's now considered to the right of a network owned by big defense contractor and corporate welfare lover General Electric.

Someone at MSNBC must have market tests that show gearing the coverage to the Democrats watching couldn't hurt in the ratings. They may be onto something.

10. Today? Don't you mean every day?
Kerry and the Dems will get no help from the corporate media- which is why they'd better be able to find other ways to shape the debate and make their case- not only for Kerry- but also against Bush.

14. I have been very pissed off all day! MSNBC and CNN have
Edited on Mon Jul-26-04 07:49 PM by loathesomeshrub
both had ridiculously negative things to say about Teresa all day regarding the shove it remark. Making it sound like she lied about saying unAmerican. Calling this unladylike behaviour. Saying that she is a liability to the campaign.

And why would they not give Keith Olberman credentials, but yet they are giving those bastards like Judy Woodruff unprecedented access to the whole thing. And is Tweety there? O'Reilley? I just heard Nader whining on O'Reilley about not being given credentials. Why the hell should he? Does he deserve to be there any more than others who couldn't get in?

On edit: He was just saying that he could not get in.
