an undecided voter you're trying to persuade, you'll need a different approach then giving him or her the dvd.

Possibilities:

1) Asking that undecided voter to go to F911 in the theaters with you.

2) Writing a brief comparison of Bush and Kerry on the issues and asking that undecided voter to look at it. Most Americans are closer to Kerry on most issues.

Moore said he had hoped to have "Fahrenheit 9/11" out on DVD before the November election, but that the film could continue to play in theaters through year's end and into 2005.

"So I don't know really what that means now in terms of the DVD," Moore said.

1. Oh God NO!
The DVD would reach MILLIONS more people! If they released it cheap, such as Uncovered, which I bought in Virgin Megastore for $9.95, or Outfoxed for $9.95 (plus shipping) from moveon.org, it could break records for documentary sales. Get it into every video store, and it could break rental records.

Man, what a freaking depressing day. What's the point?

2. I'm not happy about this either, but we need to try to reach
undecided voters in other ways.

3. It MUST be released...
This is critical. How do you know that it will not be released? Did I miss something?

8. It isn't definite, but in my first post, I quote an article:
Moore said he had hoped to have "Fahrenheit 9/11" out on DVD before the November election, but that the film could continue to play in theaters through year's end and into 2005.

"So I don't know really what that means now in terms of the DVD," Moore said.

4. Option 3:
Download it, burn it to DVD, and give copies to your undecided friends.

MM has publicly said he has no objection to downloading it.

This movie really needs to be released prior to the election. If it is not, that will represent a tremendous missed opportunity. 30% of the American Public has said they plan to see it on DVD...

5. is there anyplace on the web,
that keeps up with the estimated release dates for DVDs? I really wanted legal copies for my friends--this will suck if it is not out in time.

11. His DVD is worthless
after the election.

Moore will have it out in time. He's just generating buzz.

12. Good point. They should realize that liberals will buy multiple
dvds of it to give out before the election, but after the election, not.

13. I hope you're right
that it will be out in time. I was so depressed yesterday with all the republican negativity prior to the convention opening, then last night I got all fired up again, was tingling with excitement after each and every speech. I'm so embarrassed for having such doubts, thinking that it was going to be a shiny, happy convention with flowers and kitties and big-eyed kids, when what we need is fire and brimstone.

Didn't quite get the brimstone, but everyone had fire to spare, and I loved it!

It has to be out, it just has to be.

17. I wouldn't say WORTHLESS..
It's a historic film that I think many people would add to their collection. I agree that he would probabl sell more if it came out before the election. It might also end up being a valuable resource IF * steals the election again.

14. When it comes out on DVD
I hope that MM announces that profits will go to families of troops killed in Iraq. Not only would do good but also drive the rethuglacans insane.

23. It's a documentary..
.. no competition really.

Companies usually save the big contenders for Winter or around Oscar time just to stay fresh in peoples minds when they vote.

I doubt seriously it would be in the running for best picture. Even in that case, the impressions from the movie would stay fresh in peoples minds up until voting time!

THIS DOES NOT LOOK GOOD -

Moore also backed away slightly from his earlier intention to release "Fahrenheit" on DVD in time for the election. Sony's homevid unit is close to a distrib deal ( Daily Variety, July 7), but Moore said Sunday that Lions Gate and IFC now say they envision playing the movie "through the end of the year and possibly into the next year," suggesting a DVD won't be released until after the pic finishes its theatrical run.

"I don't honestly know what's going to happen," Moore said.

That new scenario would keep "Fahrenheit" in theaters into awards season; the film is likely to be a contender for the documentary Oscar (or, as some optimistic partisans have suggested, best picture). The Weinsteins then could choose to release the DVD timed to the pic's awards campaign.

While delaying the release of the "Fahrenheit" DVD could hurt the timeliness of the doc, especially if Bush loses the election, it also would sidestep Federal Election Commission (news - web sites) regulations that would hamper the marketing of a DVD. Though the FEC has yet to rule definitively on the issue, campaign finance rules likely prohibit mentioning or showing Bush in any broadcast ads for "Fahrenheit" in advance of the election. Restrictions are lifted after the Nov. 2 vote.

22. I'll bet that if it slips a little more in weekly ranks..
.. there's a good chance that it will get out in video before the elections.

It's a #9 this week and weekly boxoffice receipts are on the decline...

I'm not sure what the process is for getting the videos ready, but it seems that producing them shouldn't take no time!

Besides, I'm sure he wants to get them out there for early Christmas gifts!
