I got out the absentee vote among my fellow Georgians in Vietnam in 1970. I voted a straight Democratic absentee ballot from Cam Rahn Bay, Vietnam.

Georgia Governor and President Jimmy Carter
A quiet, smart man.

2. Still waters run deep.
As much as he was flamed for various things before, during and after his all-too-brief presidency, he has accomplished so much in the intervening years. Enough to win the Nobel Peace Prize. That is one hell of an accomplishment. And it was well deserved.

9. I'm ashamed to admit I didn't vote for Jimmy in 1976.
It was my first presidential election and I was still shaking off the shackles of a Republican upbringing. However, I came to my senses and did vote for him in 1980 and have never voted for another Republican since!

10. He's my favorite president in my lifetime
I think that the man's a hero, pure and simple. He made more progress towards achieving peace in the Middle East than anyone else in history. And his speech tonight at the convention was simply brilliant. Middle America can brush off statements by Michael Moore or the candidates, but when a respected senior statesman like Jimmy Carter, known to be soft-spoken, calls the Bush* presidency a failure, hopefully people will listen.:-)

Thanks for sharing your special memories and that great photo.:hi:

12. I almost didn't vote for him in 1976...Eugene McCarty was running
an independent liberal campaign and I was prepared to vote for him. Then, on the Monday night before the election, Carter made a prime time 30 minute advertisement talking about progressive taxation and Democratic values and the need to take back the country. The next day, he had my vote.

Now, this is the vote I'm proudest of. A great humanitarian, a great president, a great man and (incidentally) a great southerner. He made me proud to be from the south for the first time in my life.
