I just feel better when the President is a Democrat |
|
All the statistics improve when a Democrat is President. That's a given. That's an indisputable fact. But I'm just talking for a second about how it makes me feel.
When a Democrat is President, I don't constantly wonder how the President is scheming with his friends on how to screw me next.
When a Democrat is President I don't really spend a lot of time thinking about civil liberties. Of course, I spend some time on it, as even righteous people can become deluded with power. But it doesn't take much time when you're not really worried.
When a Democrat is President, I'm not worried that the President will get away with anything, no matter how inconsequential. They will hold that president to a very high standard.
When a Democrat is President, I wonder how they'll sabotage him, and the country he leads.

1. Maybe they know Dems are better and that is why... |
|
...they are so much tougher on them. <sarcasm> I don't mean that.
On another note, when Democrats win the Presidency, there are a lot of music celebrations. When a Republican wins, near death.

The popular culture seems much more vibrant when the government is Democratic. It does.

9. It seems to be the case. |
|
In the 90's at least from 1993 forward, you just had a lot of viberance and from 2001 (at least after 9/11) it just was dead. Now the only popular culture we have these days is how much Britany pays for all of her useless shit.

I was interested in politics when Clinton was in office. I paid attention to the war in Serbia and at times I disagreed with him. However, I always knew that when it really came to it, it was the republicans that were the ones that were really trying to screw everyone over. I also knew they were the ones that had the power in the House and I saw the kind of bills they tried to pass.
I also felt relieved that Clinton had the power of the veto. There was a brief moment of time when I was tempted by Nader and the third party, but there was an article in the Nation that really shook me out of that. It showed the bills Clinton had vetoed, and God there were all sorts.
Clinton wasn't perfect, and in some ways his presidency was dissapointing in what could have been accomplished, but ultimately I know, I slept a lot better at night.

5. you make a very good, fair point |

As good as Clinton seems now compared to the boy king, he had the potiential to be so much more. America is thirty years behind where we would be, because Clinton was such a hyper-horny sort of guy and the Repugs cared so much.

NEVER say you "feel" about anything political. That's freeper bait.
You are allowed to "feel" about killing in wars and prisoner executions and about religious experiences.
Any other "feeling" experiences are routed to the "brie and cheese" "liberals only feel, not think" bin of excrement in broadcasting condemnation, where those "feelings" are held up to nationalistic ridicule.
edit: therefore, express your political opinions in explicit terms that don't rely on "feelings." Sorry, but this is a peeve of mine.

It's just that I get so agitated by the freeper mantra: liberals don't think, they just feel; therefore their opinions can be automatically discounted.

13. feelings are legitimate |
|
This poster expressed feelings about having Democrats in power and I agree, I feel more relaxed, more optimistic, happier. Perhaps you should start asking your freeper friends if they have hearts of stone and feel nothing. On the other hand, we could stand to differentiate thinking from feelng a bit more. Democrats do tend to use the two interchangeably.

16. "liberals only feel, not think" meme |
|
Actually, it's nazis who let their feelings run their lives w/o thinking. Why else would so many of them vote for anti-abortion candidates because in their gut feelings they feel sorry for white fetuses?
Also, they let their feelings tell them that George W. Hoover is a "good Christian," a "good American" instead of thinking about the damage he's done to this country. Nazis let their gut feelings rule them when they vote against their own self-interests for the party that wants to offshore all the jobs it possibly can, destroy Medicare, make health care even more expensive, get rid of our civil liberties, etc.

12. I am never comfortable with a republican |
|
president. It always saddens me. And this last one, with the majority of the House Republican too, it has been an emotional 3 1/2 years. I can't wait till it's over, and I can only hope and pray that we as Americans never elect another Republican again! I know that sounds closed minded and naive, but I just don't like the way they operate things, never have. These guys never did that much for the middle class or poor people in this country. As Clinton said during the DNC, "they are very different from the Democrats." I've watched them for the last 36 years and they still don't get it.
Repubs the last 40 years. Richard Nixon, Republican, 1969-74. Resigned in second term. Gerald Ford, Republican, 1974-77. Apptd VP after S.Agnew resigned. Became president after Nixon resigned. Ronald Reagan, Republican, 1981-89. George Bush, Republican, 1989-93. George W. Bush, Republican, 2001-present.

14. Oh please friend, don't fall for this tactic |
|
While you were so busy feeling good in the ninties under Clinton, he was busily stripping you of your civil liberties via the '98 Terrorism Act and the War on Drugs. While you were feeling so very good, Clinton was scheming with his friends in big business on how to grind on all of us a little more. Thus we got NAFTA, a drop in real world wages, and the gap between the rich and the rest of us opened to a record setting chasm. While you were feeling oh so good, Clinton was busy shredding the social safety net via welfare "reform", thus miring hundreds of thousands in abject poverty.
Sorry, but this is the old good cop/bad cop routine, and you fell for it hard. You felt good, so you weren't really paying attention, and while you(and millions more like you) weren't paying attention, Clinton proceded to screw over the American people in more ways than one, all to please his corporate masters.
Never stop being vigilant, no matter who is in office. For remember, we live in the two party/same corporate master system of government, and the common man is going to get screwed no matter what, albeit "kinder and gentler" under a Dem:eyes:

Wonderful post MadHound! I couldn't agree more. We need to realize that just because someone has a "D" after their name, doesn't make them THE ANSWER.
I hate seeing those posts that say, "I wouldn't care if Satan was running for President, I'd still vote for him against Bush." Okay, what if Hitler or Hussein was running? Would our dislike, read hatred, of Bush make us vote for yet another evil candidate?
I'm not implying anything about Kerry, that's where my vote is going, but if I felt I didn't really have a choice (ie the candidates were both evil), I wouldn't vote.
Those "anyone but Bush" comments make us look like rabid, no-brain Bush haters, IMHO.
