Can Jimmy Carter run for Senator?
I know it's legal, but would it be considered "proper"? Could he win? Would it do any good? Comments?

1. it would be debasement
He is of much stronger influence now as an elder statesman and Nobel Prize winner, doing good works for the global community.

It would be a step down in a big way, and nearing 80, let him enjoy his golden years doing what he has been doing best.

2. He wouldn't win here in GA I don't think (age issue)
but I sure do wish Sam Nunn's daughter would run for something.

the Democrat leadership here in GA is all but indistingushible from the pukes here. They all are having a good time together, and with all the military in the state, will end up supporting bush no matter if the have an r or a d next to their name.

notable exceptions: McKinney and and um, hell, that other guy whose name escapoes me at the moment.

3. It is something that is simply not done ...
The only former President to serve in the congress was John Q. Adams, IIRC.

4. I think he is enjoying his retirement,
taking care of his library and spending time with his family. He has done plenty of public service (and continues to do so).

Why should he subject himself to the hard things like campaigning? He has deserved his rest.

5. He's more powerful than any mere politician as a senior statesman
He is doing the most good doing just what he is doing, IMO. I love that guy.
