I heard him on NPR (last week?) talk about how being an Atheist pretty much closes the doors on running for public office. I wonder if he would consider running for public office if his religious beliefs weren't so controversial here.

As he noted on Larry King, he has no desire to ever run for office. He also pointed out that he is an atheist and therefore winning an elected position is highly unlikely.
