Go ahead. Say it's B.S. that I'm posting this but I thought it was worth a healthy discussion on Michael Moore. http://www.gopusa.com/news/2004/july/0727_soldier_moore_hurting_morale.shtml

... that the truth about Iraq is hurting their morales.
Guess it would be better for them not to know that they're sacrificing themselves to keep Bush and his chronies in power.

4. Stories of lowered "esteem" in Iraq soldiers predate Moores film |
|
Many of the soldiers filmed made their comments on other media outlets. Perhaps those who haven't thought about the realities of their service in Iraq SHOULD be forced to at least consider ramifications of occupation. I'd bet many more are unhappy with their circumstances, but unwilling to speak out due to pressure to conform.

Whether or not the reason they are fighting is a valid one, a soldier must fully believe in his mission. The higher the number of soldiers who don't believe in their mission, the higher the chances of us losing this war. It may be a mess that we shouldn't have gotten into, but now that we are in it there is no doubt that we have to follow through and win it.

Try saying that to a bar full of vets just returning from Iraq after watching their best friend's head get blown off.

12. And what constitutes "winning"? |
|
We've already wiped out tens of thousands of Iraqis. Should we massacre hundreds of thousands of people who never meant us any harm, who can't fight back, and who can't get away?
I don't know what you might call that, but I sure as the world wouldn't call it "winning." At least, not given what I was taught the United States is supposed to stand for. We're the ones who used to bring war criminals to justice; not install them in the White House.

To me, winning means stabilizing Iraq and setting up a true democracy. This WILL require high morale among our soldiers.

26. Soldiers don't stabilize anything and they don't set up true democracies |
|
That's done through diplomacy and other peace-making efforts. Soldiers kill people. They blow things up. They don't "stabilize" socities or "set up true democracies." Since they have nothing to do with your stated goals, I submit you're using the wrong tool for the job you would like to see done. Hammers are very useful tools for pounding nails. They're very ineffective tools for, say, cooking a hamburger.

17. to be delusional isn't preferable to informed. |
|
If the troops have knowledge that prevents them from agreeing with their mission, it would be almost impossible to demand they disregard their insights and opinions. That they must still perform their "job" is not in question. How they feel about it and how that impacts their willingness to re-enlist or suggest OTHERS enlist is.

21. Everyone should always know the truth.... Period |
|
When you want to spread lies and then they find out about it they become demoralized not by reading the truth but by knowing they have been lied to. You feel that is acceptable then you are on the wrong forum.

Is morale ever high during a war? I think there are a lot worse things than movies going on that might be effecting these soldiers.
Beheadings and torture come to mind. Besides, if you are worried about these kids being young and impressionable, maybe the battlefield isn't the best place for them to begin with.
Lastly, you should always question war. Always. It better damn well be something we HAVE to do, and the reasoning better damn well be SOLID.

15. This article is an insult to our soldiers |
|
Heaven forbid the GOP actually believe that the young men and women they send to war are actually SMART ENOUGH to realize that when there are no WMD to be found in a country they were sent to bomb in order to get the WMD then perhaps they were, oh, I don't know....LIED TO?
There is nothing in that movie that wasn't in at least one newspaper article. All MM did was connect the dots that were already there. Hell, were there any DUers who went to see F911 that were shocked and surprised by it?
If the GOP wants to know the source for the low morale (which existed before bootleg copies of a movie arrived) then all they have to do is think about their own lies and flawed policies. It's that simple.

Enjoy your stay while it lasts. And in the mean time, may I suggest that, for a listening experience that you would find more suitable, you turn to the AM band of your radio? Godspeed to you, and may the door hit you in the ass on your way out.

sounds very lke a PAO type regurgitating TP from higher up. The morale has nothing to do with MM or his film and everything to do with being in a dire situation with no end in sight.
