OK I'm sick of Randi Rhodes
When she said most of you don't know who Rev Alston is or what he said last night. The part I'm sick of is that she is so CHENEY full of herself that she thinks she is the only one who knows anything about anything - she prefaces many things she says like this - I'm the only one who knows this and I'm the only one who knows that blah blah blah - you know she is so smart and so good if she would just stop being so freaking self absorbed I could tolerate listening to her. Now Randi you may not know this but I saw Rev Alston as did many other DUers because we are smart enough to watch CSPAN....also Thom Hartman talked about him today. Randi get the CHENEY over yourself you are not the only liberal out there who has some knowledge. Goddess I can't wait for Mike Malloy to return.

16. OK let me explain
I do like her - and I think she is very smart and I do turn it off when she gets to be too much for me - and no I don't want to listen to the others - I also know she was pointing out that the networks didn't carry Alston - but this is not the first time she has prefaced something like this. To hear her talk she single handily solved the case of the FL vote fraud in 2000 and there are other examples. I just wish she would cool it on the self absorbed stuff. If you want to see what I am talking about - check out the number of times she says I or me in a short period of time. All I'm saying is that for me and I'm sure many others she would be more enjoyable to listen if she wasn't so full of herself.

Mike Malloy can give us the same information without sounding like he is the freaking God's answer to the liberal cause...that's all I'm saying.

10. I thought she was saying the media doesn't know who Rev Alston is
I could be wrong though. I've been in and out of the office so I'm not paying too close attention today.

I like her though. I think the liberals could use at least one abrasive hard ass on our side.

19. Frankly I don't think she is all that hard assed
She also has to play down to a lot of people in the dark about a lot of things that are going on. People that don't have a lot of Internet access and have not spent years and years watching the political world go round and round really need to hear people like her. People that know a lot about what is really going on are very small minority (Like if you haven't noticed:scared:)

12. You missed her point, by about a mile.
Her point was that most of america doesn't know about him, because his speech was not covered by the networks.

Am I listening to the same show you are? She mentioned 3 or 4 times in the opening segment that many of last night's speeches will go unnoticed because they weren't televised.

15. I was tempted to say
"get over it" but I can see that's never going to happen. ;-)

Randi is Randi. I love her. and her point was that MOST Americans did not have an opportunity to hear an important speech last night because the 'media' show such a limited amount of the convention--NOT to make an 'i'm smarter than everybodyelseinthewholewideworld statement.

that said, don't listen. flip over to Hannity for a dose of real humility and civil discourse....

20. Now that get over it statement
is pretty funny. I hope you guys read my response - I didn't miss her point by a mile. You have to imagine that most of her listeners are pretty tuned into what went on last night - and what she said is most of you don't know Alston and what he said and I bet anything most of the folks that are regulars on DU and listen to Randi knew who Alston was. And this is not the first time she has done this - just do me a favor listen for this type of behavior and you will see what I mean....

27. Randi hates babies
LOL! I started listening to Randi during the Election 2000 nightmare and she was amazing. I loved her voice, her attitude, her intelligence and so on. I couldn't hear her often because I could only pick up her signal in my car. I moved to Orlando for about a year and half and all I could get was Rush, Sean, etc., and I listened to them on the way to work. So, I know all about the enemy. :) I missed Randi terribly.

When I got back to South Florida and started listening to Randi again, I did notice a change in her radio personality. I'm not sure what's happened, but she does seem to be a bit more abrasive. The other day she did the "I hate babies" thing again and although it kinda cracks me up I can see how that might make her sound, what's the word, SHRILL? Having said all that, I still like her and I still don't get to hear her very often because I have to get her through streaming on the computer and I can't stay on the computer that long anymore.

I guess my point is that Randi has changed from three or four years ago, but I do respect her for saying what she feels even if it is something like "I hate babies." heh heh Also, I won't argue with anyone who says they can't stand her. She most definitely is an acquired taste. Personally, I hope she cuts back a little on the rudeness, but Randi is Randi.

Oh, and I did hear her talking about the Reverend ? and the bit about no one seeing or hearing him and she was saying it in that way because she was mad at the networks for not carrying his speech. She was purposely exaggerating to make a point. She does that a lot. That's Randi's passion and sarcastic humor. Again, she is an acquired taste.

18. Network bashing. She said
that nobody knows who Rev. Alston is because the networks didn't play his speech. The reality is that Randi is correct. She knows that you know who he is. She's trying to reach those that don't know and will play his speech at drive-time (5:00 pm EDT) today to give the Reverand the greatest possible exposure.

25. She said MOST of you
and I don't believe that to be the case - but as I said before it is not this one instance she does this all the time and all I'm saying is I wish she would cool it with the I and the me me me - it is tiring. Mike Malloy can deliver the same exact info without making it sound like he is the only one who knows anything - and often Randi will almost as much as say I'm the only one who knows something. I'm telling you listen for it and you'll hear it....that's all I'm saying.

but she certainly likes to talk about herself and act like she knows alot more than the rest of us.....she doesn't. Yesterday a caller had to inform her of the ethics investigation of Senator Shelby for leaking intelligence to the media re: 911.

29. Your thread title was a typo then?
You like her, but you are so sick of her?

Her style and her audience is people that she is informing. Not people who are as informed as she is. And there are alot more of them than thier are of us, she does an invaluable service by speaking to people who arent that informed. We cant design our media to service the minority of us who are information junkies.

30. You're right
I should have said something like I'm sick of Randi being full of herself or something else - but at the time I wrote it I was frustrated. I do like her alot but she frustrates me when she acts like she knows more than anyone else and you have to give me that - she does often act like that. There are several other liberal radio talk show hosts that don't act like this and I just wish she would cool it a little.

So I apologize for the title of my thread - but I guess it got some attention.

28. Stop firing at our side, we dont need this.
You dont like her, stop listening. But I am so utterly sick of people acting as thier personal listening preference was an objective fact.

You think Randi is full of herself, take a luck in a mirror. Randi has worked her but off to be one of the very very very very very few liberals in the media. Whether you like her style or not she is as precious as gold to us.

The conservatives make it hard enough for liberals to get on the media and when they do all you can do is snipe at them.

31. Perspective folks: totally immersed and "educated" Dem/Progressives
Edited on Tue Jul-27-04 03:27 PM by hlthe2b
and those who frequent DU and other rapid fire up-to-date websites are not the majority of the party and certainly may not be the majority of new listeners to AAR or RR specifically. Plus, I think her point was that the media was not covering these great speeches (and thus it is no wonder most of America doesn't know these people).

One thing I will say, though, is that I fear Randi's achilles heal may be that she has HAD it with being unappreciated (despite her hard work) and it is coming through loud and clear in her not-so-subtle resentment of Al Franken and his comparative success & acceptance. Now, I don't say this to imply that Al Franken may not be getting a free ride because of his celebrity, because he is male, because he is often amusing, or whatever. But, the fact is is that yesterday she became overtly irritated when one of her producers was trying to nab an interview, only to have that individual become "attached" to Al Franken, who happened to be on the floor at the same time. Randi was quite angry, but it also was accompanied by on-air rudeness to her poor female producer, who had tried really hard to get the interview and was hurt by RR's constant harping that "the only way SHE could get these people was if AL Franken got them first." Now, I have said before that I see alot of myself in RR, her personality traits, and also in RR's mistakes. Given that, I sympathise, but also clearly recognize the damage that Randi's insecurities are doing to herself. (Now if I could only recognize in advance and control these same tendencies in myself!--working on it)

32. I really don't care for Al Franken's style on the radio
so I don't often listen to him, but I do listen to Randi.

I don't recall her saying "I'm the only one who knows" but I will listen for it. I feel I learn at least one new thing when I listen to her. I don't blame her for being pissed off at the convention, what the hell is Hannity doing there, asking people to vote for Bush! He should be in the free speech zone. That would yank my chain.

"I hate babies" too when people insist on talking on the phone with a screaming baby in their arms. It'll bust your eardrums.

I used to listen to Mike when I lived in the south. He was great, but he could go off on a tangent, too. It is hard to verbally document the underhanded, slimy, backstabbing, crap the republicans pull day in and day out. Then take calls from them. I couldn't keep my cool.
