I'm writing this from the press bullpen inside the DNC

Bedlam in here, the smell of a hundred sweaty press bodies ill-fed on McDonalds and coffee, laptops everywhere, and the thrum of the enthusiastic crowd above us vibrating the walls.

Just saw Wolf Blitzer getting petted by some lesser light near the entrance to the floor. A reporter for several gay magazines, who was walking with me when we passed Blitzer, wondered aloud why he got such preferential treatment. I posited that it was his hair, or perhaps that his name was "Wolf." If his first name was "Douche," he would get a lot less love.

Peter, Paul and Mary are rocking the joint. I can hear them from around the corner.

This is EXCITING! I just saw the MSNBC report on the bloggers making the convention scene for the first time. They had Joe Trippi on. No mention was made of any sites but their own, of course. I'd have liked them to name a few more names.

I'm tickled for you, Will - I'd say live it up!

I had a friend who was at the time a budding reporter - who went to the convention that year and repeatedly got thrown out. He eventually struck up a friendship with some blond, lanky southern guy named Jody. After Jimmy Carter won the election, Jody invited him to be assistant White House Press Secretary. By the way, my friend decided to stay put - he wound up doing well enough. But, Will, you never know where this may lead...

I'm so jealous that you get to be there! Watching it from this vantage point is pretty exciting; don't know if my feet would stay on the ground if I were priviledged to actually BE there though. ;)
