Why was Kerry Booed in his hometown?
I just got a call from a desperate friend who is trying to convince a group of people at a party they should vote for Kerry, but they wanted to know why Kerrys hometown would boo him. I told him I'd find out and call him back! Anybody know what that was about?

1. It was from the Yankee's v. Red Sox game Sunday night.
When he threw the first pitch. It is being spun in a way that the fans don't like any politicians interfering with their games.

I can't explain it except to say we are a divided nation and there were probably Bush supporters at the game.

2. Oh, for crying out loud!
He threw out the opening pitch at the Sox game and bounced it. The people were giving him shit about it.

Criminy!

Fortunately he's not running for baseball player.

19. Oh for crying out loud!
The catcher missed. When the catcher misses, the fucking ball bounces.

3. They might be referring to the Boston Red Sox baseball game Kerry attended
He threw out the first ball to an Iraqi war veteran. He got mostly cheers when he walked up to the mound, and some boos when his pitch didn't reach the plate.

5. Do those idiots mean at the baseball game?
Edited on Tue Jul-27-04 06:50 PM by aquart
That was payback for New York booing Cheney at the Yankees game.

They got this off Drudge? For shame. I believe the comment was that boos and cheers were about equal.

6. Ever spent time in Boston?
Booing is a term of endearment there. Rough crowd.

At one time I worked at a major concert venue there, as a promoter's representative. I am not from Boston. The Bostonians on the crew went out of their way, to the point of near-religious fervor, to make my life miserable. At the end of the season, I left, never to return and relieved to be done with it. At the beginning of the next season, the crew had some of the guys call me and ask me to please return, that they wanted me back.

Like I said: Rough crowd.

7. Politicians always get booed at sporting events
plus, there were surely some Yankee fans there, and the the Yankee/Sox rivalry would probably be enough to boo a Massachusetts politician. Plus there are surely SOME repubs in Boston

9. A winger I know said it was because the soldier was supposed to throw the
pitch, and when Kerry showed up they let Kerry throw and made the soldier catch. People didn't like it.

The winger said that Kerry should have caught for the soldier.

I don't know if any of that's true, but that must be what they're saying on Fox.

10. Are you serious?
At a Red Sox/Yankees game?

Where a large portion of the crowd hates Boston?

Where a large portion of the remaining crowd are Right Wingers?

Think!

13. Honestly, he wasn't booed nearly as much as I thought he would be ...
All the previous posters are correct, except that there were really relatively few boos. I remember last year when they had "New Hampshire Day" at Fenway ... holy crap did Craig Benson, NH's gov, get booed! THAT was booing ... what they did to John was nothing.

14. Wow, So Nice To Know The Well-Informed Electorate
is basing their opinion on who the most powerful man in the world, the leader of our nation for the next 4 years should be...

on fans at a baseball game.

Jesus, what is this, American F*cking Idol? Tell them to read up on the issues. Go to Johnkerry.com. Examine what the disasterous policies of the past four years have done to this country and it's standing in the world.

But ferchrissakes, don't base who you're going to vote for on the opinions of some drunk yahoos at a sporting event.

15. 80% of the crowd was with Kerry. 20% not.
Try telling that group of people that Kerry has investigated and exposed more government corruption than any lawmaker in modern history.

ALSO let them know that Kerry wrote a book about terrorism and its funding back in 1996-7 when most of the GOP was concentrating on one of the few sexual affairs not involving them.

Maybe 9-11 wouldn't have happened if more Republicans had bothered to read Kerry's book.

21. I havent been able to find the New War in stores yet
You know I personally think its great when candiates write books, we all know that JFK wrote profiles in courage, RFK wrote 13 days, and Kerry has written a few things othre than a Call to Service which was basically a boook version of his campaign platform.
