Okay, Robert Caro is my hero.
That introduction was terrific. As a student majoring in history, I am filled with respect for that man. It makes me want to read the LBJ books he's written. Very effective speaker.

1. I wish I had that idea.
Sit in the Senate and write a history of it? Where do I sign up? :-)

4. All it takes is one idea.
Maybe once we get a Democratic government they would be willing to bankroll ambitious endeavors like that.

11. One of the weirdest places during a session is the Extension rotunda
Since it's one of the few places where people can smoke and also the only place where cell phones work.

14. I've read his 3 LBJ books. Master of the Senate is a masterpiece
It's a big book and some may be intimidated ... but it's flat out a great read that's educational, inspiring and humorous. What a character LBJ was. Watching Daschle and Gebhart tonight made me compare their leadership abilities to LBJ. LBJ was a street fighter in the Senate. Daschle and Gebhart are guys that you wouldn't hesitate to let them hold your money, but they have always been so obsequious to the Republicans and rolled over with the slightest push. LBJ on the other hand, is probably NOT somebody you'd want holding your cash, but by God if we had him running the Democrats in the Senate these days it would be a different ballgame altogether. LBJ was uncompromising til the last dog died. He'd get up in your face, poke your shoulder with his index finger, cajole, flatter, threaten, whatever he needed to do ... and he'd walk away with your vote in his pocket.

15. It's one of the best books
on politics that I've read. While it looks large -- as you've said -- once you start reading it, it becomes impossible to put down. I'd think that it should be required reading in a political science course in colleges.
