Put a real Joe Schmo up on the stage, people

a REAL one. One who never went to college (parents couldn't afford it). A guy with callouses on his hands from his job. A guy with a wife and two kids and a mortgage to pay. A guy one illness or accident away from financial disaster.

Let THAT guy talk about why he's voting for John Kerry. Let THAT guy talk about why he is a Democrat. And make all the talking heads on every other network shut the hell up for THAT five to seven minutes. Let every other "little guy" out there hear THAT.

2. They've had folks like that live from all over the country

in between the speeches. Especially earlier in the day. You only get to see them if you're watching on C-Span or maybe the DNC streaming video -- not on the cable news shows or networks news on other nights.

5. And the trick is that TV is tough

And poor Joe Schmo ends up looking kind of bad... There's a real art to this kind of speaking, and the average Joe most likely isn't a natural.

I know just what you mean, but I've cringed through too many of those in the past, watching the poor guy or gal.
