Find out why growing numbers of doctors and pharmacists across the US are refusing to prescribe or dispense birth control pills http://www.prevention.com/cda/feature2002/0,2479,s1-7342,00.html
She told me she couldn't in good faith prescribe the Pill anymore," says Kelley, who lives with her husband and son in Allentown, PA. Then the gynecologist told Kelley she wouldn't be able to get a new prescription from her family doctor, either. "She said my primary care physician was the one who helped her make the decision."

2. Yep- it's birth control that the right is after
not abortion- not Roe v. Wade. They're after a case called Griswold.

I've been telling people this for years, but no one believes me. I think it'll take another 4 years of Bush and Republican majorities to make this happen- but once it does, people will no longer have any recourse to stop it.

3. Bullshit. Call the AMA.
It's your prescription, you paid for it. You have a legal right to it, and they can be sanctioned for not giving it to you. Fuck these freaks.

5. dominionism in action
this is where it starts. See now how closet dominionists are starting to get brave and come out of the closet. Once they get confident, they'll round up all us 'free thinkers' and either execute us or send us to Gitmo.

7. This is total bullshit!
I don't know if that stuff scares me more or infuriates me more. Funny how I never heard a story about a doctor or pharmacist refusing a Viagra prescription. How can they do that, birth control pills have more than one use.

8. Drugstores and pharmacists that refuse to fill legal prescriptions ...

... should be required to disclose that information in all printed advertisement and in all phone calls.

9. they should also lose their licenses.
If their religious beliefs are that important, they're in the wrong line of work. Doctors should only refuse to perscribe medication for medical, not religious reasons. And pharmacists who refuse to fill perscription should be charged with impersonating a physician because they are in effect making medical decisions.

12. Last I checked...
these people take an oath to serve the best interest of their patients, much like politicians take an oath to serve the best interest of their constituents. Religion or any other personal belief should NEVER take prescience over that oath.

10. Put these quacks out of business!
If the pharmacist works for a chain, complain to the supervisor/manager -- LOUDLY. Get that hack fired, and get your pills. Tell your friends. If it's a doctor who refuses to prescribe the Pill, find another doctor, and TELL YOUR FRIENDS.

Let's see how strong their convictions are when it hits them in their pocketbooks.

13. I have a story to share.
Three months ago, I needed a prescription for the morning-after pill because of a mid-cycle condom failure. My doctor was GREAT...told me she'd call the scrip in right away. You need to take it within 72 hours of the, um, incident.

Then the doctor's office called me back. Turns out the CVS I go to said they don't carry the MA pill, and they could order it and it would arrive in four days...yep, 96 HOURS later. What an UNFORTUNATE circumstance, hm?

Lucky for me I live in a medium-large town, and there is a Walgreen's only a few miles down the road that was happy to have my business. But what if I lived out in a rural area with only one drugstore?

I'm getting pissed off all over again just thinking about it. How soon before we are back to the days of Margaret Sanger getting thrown in jail for even telling women about birth control?

14. The other poster is right, alert the AMA
Unless there is a valid medical reason for not prescribing birth control, they have no right to deny it.

15. It's a shame this may get lost in all the convention threads
These people want to set women's healthcare back 50 years. That a gynecologist could do this is even worse. Could they be sued for false advertising?

17. Not only do we have new battles to fight -- we mush fight battles
that I thought we had won years ago -- birth control, voter's rights, etc. I too have been warning people that they are coming after birth control too. The "swing" people need to wake up and give a damn.

20. This happened in Texas
and the pharmacist was fired for it.

DALLAS - A Texas pharmacist was disciplined for refusing to fill the prescription of a rape victim seeking a morning-after pregnancy-prevention pill, the pharmacy chain that employed the man said on Tuesday.

Eckerd Corp. said the pharmacist considered it a violation of morals to give a rape victim, with a valid prescription, a pill that would prevent her from getting pregnant due to the sexual assault.

The incident took place on Jan. 23 at an Eckerd drug store in the Dallas suburb of Denton.

Eckerd spokeswoman Joan Gallagher said she could not give details of the disciplinary actions, but that the pharmacist had violated company policy.

“A pharmacist is obliged to fill a prescription if it is a valid, legal prescription,” she said. “We do not make exceptions for any moral, religious or ethical concerns with regard to filling the prescription.”

Florida-based Eckerd is owned by Texas-based retailer J.C. Penney Co.
