Albright on Today w/Matt Lauer: If Gore was in the White House
He would have ousted the Taleban in alliance with Nato and the UN, and FINISHED the job of rebuilding the country, making the world a safer place. Says Karzai is nothing more than the Mayor of Kabul.

Said Bush took international support for a global war on terror, and turned it into US policy of preemptive invasion (losing support of the world).

Said it is time for US to admit it can't do Iraq alone, that US was wrong, and seek UN help both militarily and in rebuilding.

All in all, she was VERY critical of this misadministration and it's policies, and Lauer was VERY good in steering her toward saying these things.

(The above is paraphrased from the show 1 hour ago.)

2. She's pretty correct
I don't agree with the idea that the US should just cut and run, but why isn't it clear to everybody that the UN should be the lead organization in rebuilding Iraq? Who else is going to do it? We've done a terrible job and we aren't trusted.

6. ANY leader will say they'll work alone "if they must"
With Bush, working alone is his preference, NOT a must. Big difference.

7. I am guessing that you think we should have unilaterally attacked Iraq
She never said we must unilaterally attack Iraq. She said when we must. I agree with her. The US must act when necessary but I don't feel this was necessary. I think in time the UN would have done the job with US support and then it would have legal authority. Right now it is an illegal invasion IMHO.

8. In the interview she said...
She agreed with what Bush said about Evil Saddam, but she saw no imminent threat or reason to unilaterally invade. Also called Saddam's tie to AQ tenuous at best...

9. She was referring to Iraq
She was referring to Clinton's 1998 bombing of Iraq. Do you think the 1998 bombing was necessary?

4. She was asked (by Matt) if she agreed..
With a NY Times OpEd that said we turned a country that was not a terrorist threat into one. Albright replied "Iraq is now a breeding ground for them, or at least a magnet."
