Republicans held the White House for 56. (Although some don't count Teddy Roosevelt as a "real" Republican). The longest streak during that time was from 1861-1885, 24 years.

in the modern era (I'm using 1900 - present) we've had a hard time stringing together more than 2 in a row. We have such amazing talent on deck and in the wings I'd like to see us break that streak.

as some do, then the democrats from jefferson to van bueren held power from 1801-1841

Except Andrew Johnson (1865-69) was a War Democrat elected on the National Union ticket in 1864...

Maybe the Democrats 1801-1841 although the party certainly went through some changes in the 1820s.

11. Jefferson-Van Buren. 40 years, 24 before factionalism.

Even if you argue that JQ Adams and Jackson essentially represented different parties, it still leaves 24 years under Jefferson, Madison, and Monroe.

If you argue that the one-party rule only existed until 1824, then you would also have to argue that the Republican's 24 year rule from 1860 to 1884 was also tainted by the ascension of Andrew Johnson to the presidency, a democrat who ran on the 1864 "national union" ticket with Lincoln.
