Can we stop saying "First Black President?"
Let us instead follow the example of his message-
NOT the White, Black, Hispanic or Asian states of
America- but the UNITED STATES of AMERICA!
He transcends race, party, religion etc...
Let us do the same.
That has always been my dream for this country
and our people, which I do believe is why he
moves me so.

OBAMA- 2008!
Not Black or White or whatever- simply a TRUE LEADER
for a country built on DIVERSITY!

1. As in...
"There is not a black America and a white America, a Latino America, an Asian America, there is the United States of America."
Barack Obama-

19. We have a long tradition in this country of that being black.
So it would be an equivelent achievement.

"Oh, honey, it's a black man on TV who sounds like Dan Aykroyd. He's so articulate."

6. I am just happy we are going to finally have a Senator who will
represent us in this part of the state. We can stop our envy of the down-staters who have the wonderful Sen. Durbin.

7. Not 2008.
That would interfere with Kerry's second term.

Edwards/Obama 2012. Too early to dream about? Man, after hearing his speech tonight, I don't care. The sky is the limit with this man.

17. "of the great diversity of America...
...which makes America better for everyone"

We are lucky that Obama's grandfather had the values he had, and passed them on to a son, who brought that drive and dedication and talent to America, and then instilled it in his son who was kept giving it back to America so that everyone could have the same opportunities his parents had.

This is what makes America work.

13. one of the dumbest things
kerry ever said was 'I want to be the second black president.'

but at least democrats care about minorities.

i hope al sharpton will stop screwing around and run for congress already. and yeah, sean combs for mayor of new york. he's gotta run for something, at least.

18. No, not really.
I believe it was a black reporter asked him if he wanted to be the second black president, a la Clinton, and Kerry said something like that would be an honor.

until tonight. Can we anoint him president. . . hardly . . .Is he a great speaker? absolutely!!! Does he have a future? Indeed - watch him hone his craft over the next six years - he will be a Clinton orator!

16. We didn't know because...
the network news was not about to give a person
of this magnitude visibility!
But thanks to C-Span, we now "have a dream."
All the more reason to "DU" the right thing...
Boycott the networks and send our support ($$$) to
Obama and C-SPAN!

20. So, when he becomes president, we're not supposed to notice
that he's African-American. And that never before has an African-American been a president?

When a woman becomes the president, we're not supposed to notice that she's the first woman who's been elected president?

Hmmmm. Sorry. No can do. I notice those things. I'll celebrate my ass off when those things happen. But I will notice.

23. Not gonna happen any time soon
The freepers wouldn't vote for Alan Keyes, who out-freepered most freepers, because he was black. Most whites won't live in a neighborhood that is truly "diverse." The tipping point is, on average, 20% non-whites in the area before white flight occurs. Some studies and articles are found at http://www.sscnet.ucla.edu/issr/paper/issr4-2.txt and http://www.utexas.edu/depts/grg/hudson/grg394k/studentprojects/cundiff/cundiff.html
(Google is your friend)

Sorry, I don't think that most whites would vote for a non-white-male president. That's a world that doesn't exist, at least not yet. This ain't the Federation.

24. Most whites want vote for a non-white male President , well the
crew in office now are about to take care of that first by stepping on the brown folks in the ME and eying the same for yellow folks in Asia, can't beat em all you know. Who will survive, the browns, yellows/white? Could it perhaps be where so much of the fear from whites is coming from? Something to ponder over.

26. We can talk after we get a first.
Until then the first black person to be elected president will be the first black president.

When a black person with the experience, knowledge and intelligence of Bush is elected President than we can talk about transcending race.

racism and sexism no longer exists in this country to the point that 90-99% of the politicians in the house and senate are white males, I will gladly ignore the race and sex of those very few who break through the wall. As a bi-racial woman, I celebrate their achievements. You see, I don't take being elected to that kind of position for granted, since it is rarely granted at all.

There is no such thing as being "color blind", although one can see a person's color and have it make no difference in your judgment of them. To deny the race or sex or religion of a person, or the fact that they have broken through barriers, isn't being inclusive, it's denying reality, a reality that some of us have to live with every day, regardless of our ideals.
