Tweety Ragging On & On About Teresa's Accent. Idiot!
Did anyone catch Tweety with ambassador Holbrook and his wife? Tweety kept asking if the American people were ready to accept someone with a foreign accent as first lady. Unfortunately, the Holbrookes weren't up to the task of taking him down with obvious answers.

Tweety asked if there was anything on TV that features people with accents - sitcoms, etc. I don't even watch it, but "The George Lopez Show" sprang to my mind in a heartbeat. I'm sure there's others, but I don't watch them either.

Of course, Tweety's brilliant point was that Americans are suspicious of politicos with accents, like Teresa. That they won't put anyone with an accent into the WH (as if they're electing Teresa!).

I guess he forgot the guy running Cali-flour-nia these days, eh?

Asshole.

1. Don't get your shorts in a bunch.
He's only putting it on the table and seeing if anybody goes for it. That's what he does.

I suspect there is around 20% to 30% of the far right population who don't like some "foreigner" married to the President. And the rest of the country would be offended by it.

If it becomes an issue at all, it will be because Bush is losing badly and is playing to a small, and quickly shrinking choir.

3. She is an American citizen
She has 3 American children, she has been married to TWO US senators..

Her "accent" is less off-putting than the imbecile who took up residency at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave a few years ago..

Her "accent" is more pleasing to listen to than the put-on-affectations of "wannabee Texans"..:)

she speaks in complete sentences. She's well read, curious, and unscripted. She's a delight!

out of the park. How about this answer:

"Gee, Chris, have you already forgotten that Arnold Schwarzenegger - a man who holds dual citizenship - was elected Governor of California? Talk about having a heavy accent! Not only that, there are Republicans in Congress pushing to amend the Constitution to allow people like Arnold to run for president. If anything, the trend is going in the opposite direction of what you're suggesting."

Tweety is simply revealing his prejudice and that of the GOP.

This is a country founded and built by immigrants (after killing and marginalizing the real native Americans) and the Dems have a great deal more diversity and inclusiveness in that regard. AND we are becoming global and foreign languages and voices will be even more commonplace. But of course the Shrub has barely ever left Texas. And what an accent he has!

8. But you see, politicians with accents are fine with Matthews
as long as they're spouting bullshit lines from movies.

Well, Teresa has a catchphrase of her own: Shove it. And that's what Matthews should do with his comment about her accent. Shove it.

10. Isn't the Texas Twang an accent all its own and foreign sounding too?
Don't mean to insult anybody--but to many non-Texans the Texas Twang is a foreign sounding accent, not easy to understand most of the time.
So there you go Tweety Matthews--so much for foreign sounding accents!
:P

20. I don't know anyone in Texas who speaks with the accent Bush* has.
It's phoney and made up just like he is. My husband was born and raised in this state and he doesn't have a "Texas Twang" whatever that is. Nor does his family.

It's alright for a cabinet member to have a foreign accent as long as he's a war criminal.

I think I know the demographics that Tweety is catering to. White, male northeasterner who goes to the pub at night to drink with the boys instead of going home to the wife to help with the kids' homework.

He has blinders which he doesn't realize he has on. I remember when that plane went down in Long Island after 9/11 he personalized it by claiming that the neighborhood in which it crashed was blue-collar and Irish. But as the news gathered, several indignant people who lived there came out and said the community was diverse and had several hispanics as well as other ethnic denominations.

It just made me wonder if Matthew's world is just a wee bit small for the job he's charged to do.

14. He'll remember when HIS guy with the ACCENT s lining up for Imperial Power
THEN, in a typically Soviet fashion Tweety's position will be the OPPOSITE of what it is today.

There is not a whit of issue or doubt, as there seldom is with Orwellians, Soviets, Nazis, and Busheviks.

Not even a 0.0001% chance that when Imperial Gouvernor-General Ahnold goes for the Amerikan Throne, that Tweety ir his Toadying Ilk would DARE to say such things.

My God, I LOATHE Totalitarianism.

I just never realized I would ever share my nation with Totalitarianims.

I never dreamed the "Animal Farm" would come here.

21. Holbrook did make the point that even Irish immigrants had a tough time
Edited on Wed Jul-28-04 07:32 AM by wishlist
in this country years ago and there was a lot of debate and controversy back when Irish Catholic Kennedy ran for president. That was a very smart comeback by Holbrook since Tweety considers his biggest audience to be the 50 to 60'ish Irish and Italians from the Northeast who are the children and grandchildren of immigrants and are old enough to remember all the prejudice against Kennedy.
