Think this ticket could win in 20012: Clinton/Obama or Obama/Clinton
Edited on Wed Jul-28-04 07:28 AM by lottie244
Things are looking good for the future. there are many more like him in the Dem party. And we owe a debt of gratitude to those African-American warriors who made it possible for him to give that speech last night and I am talking about MLK, Jesse Jackson (s), Maxine Waters, Barbara Jordon, Ralph Bunche, Randolph, Tubman, and the many, many more who were not afraid to speak truth to power in their own way.

2. Clinton/Obama
Women will demand it if they have any sense. Or some other woman/Obama. I'm not picky, but woman make up more than half the party and they should stand up and refuse to keep accepting the idea that only men can be president. Obama was very impressive, but he isn't even a senator yet. There are qualified women who deserve a chance to be taken seriously.

Edwards is barely tollerable to me as a VP and I refuse to give him a pass to assume that the next nomination is automatically his.

4. I guess it depends on the success or failure of a Kerry presidency
You could definately be right if the party is looking to distance itself from this team, but if they do well I think Edwards will be primed and ready for the job. Edwards/Clinton might be a possibility too, I suppose.

6. it's not right
but having never had either a woman or an African-American on a winning presidential ticket, I'm not sure the country, even by 2012, will be ready to elect a ticket with both on it (and as a matter of practicality, I don't really think Hillary Clinton could ever be elected president ... she's not particularly well liked in the South and the turnout among Republicans everywhere who remember the good ol' days of Clinton-bashing would be historic and perhaps too much to overcome)

10. Wasn't it Anna Quindlen a few weeks ago
who pointed out that for women to start being taken seriously as presidential material, they have to start stepping forward -- putting their necks out there.

I don't think it's the whole problem, but I do think this is where Hillary can shine. She's not afraid. I think there are some other very qualified women, but they need to start demanding that they be taken seriously, and start putting their names out there (for 2012, naturally!) Kudos to CMB for trying this year. We just have to keep at it!

I thought Obama was pretty damned impressive last night, too. Although an awful lot can happen in 8 years...

5. Not To Nitpick

But in 20012 none of the above will be in any shape to run.

7. hillary is going to have to learn how to speak first
Monday night's speech reminded me of why she isn't ready for the majors just yet. Her oratory skills are sorely lacking. She runs full-out at "eleven" during the whole speech; a fever pitch that should be the crescendo is the pitch of the entire thing. No quiet, reflective pauses or parenthetical asides. No slow build to the climactic close.

The Big Dog is the master of all that and more. I'm surprised that, at this point, she hasn't been properly mentored by him in this regard.

As a result, she does sound "shrill" to many people's ears, including mine. Unfortunately, that gets translated by the talking heads into far less complimentary adjectives.

12. It doesn't help that she sits and looks bored or has side conversations
while other people are speaking. I didn't see Hillary's speech on Monday, but I sure wasn't impressed watching her during Teresa's speech last night. I was watching C-Span, and I imagine the other channels had more shots of her and critical commentary afterward.

8. I doubt it

A lot of people don't even like the idea of a male presidential candidate's wife having the potential to influence policy. Look how Hillary was treated 1992-2000 ... and what's happening to Teresa Heinz Kerry right now. It isn't going to change in eight years, in my opinion. We've still got a long way to go, baby, and that's just half of the question at hand.

This country is full of sexist, racist, stupid people. I think it will be a long time before enough of them die off that a female or African-American male president becomes a very real possibility. Good grief, look how much backsliding can take place in just four years.

11. Hillary doesn't really want to be President or vp
actually i'm sure she would LIKE to be it. but i don't think she wants it enough to go through the crap she went when bill clinton ran. and it would be much worse if she ran. i think she really is happy being senator and wants to stick to that. and maybe get some higher position in the senate some day.
