I'm saying I am so radical that if a poltician agrees with me completely and never pisses me off (remember, I'm a hotheaded curmudgeony old bastard), there is no way s/he can go anywhere in politics because they obviously would be as radical as I am.

4. The best, most inspiring speech I have ever heard
I'm 44 years old and have been a political junkie since age 13. That was, without reservation, the best speech by a politician I have ever heard in my life. My wife and I were literally in tears. It was the first time I've felt truly PROUD to be an American in years.

8. I've have to tell you what Obama did to us..............
not long ago my husband said, we have to leave this country - this can't be our home(we are German green card holders)

My husband, a very serious physicist, sat in his sofa tonight, tears ran over his cheeks.
Her was so touched and said, it's so good to see, that finally the Democrats wake up and find their voice again.

We want to see this great politician grow and someday we will vote him into the highest office!!!!!

13. I knocked Obama....
big time on Sunday here at DU after his Meet the Whores Performance where he would not take Bush to task for lying us into the Iraq war....it made me mad as hell because if Obama wont talk the truth, who the hell will for the Dems? I just have to accept the fact that there is no one out there in Dem Land who goes on these shows who will articulate the facts that proves Bush did lie to us to get us into his war. I am accepting that fact as hard as it is. I do not know why no one from our side will take Bush to task for lying and do it in a substantive way (not like Michael Moore last night on FOX). It does not make sense to me.

Anyway, Obama's speech last night was the most inspiring convention speech since Ted Kennedy's spech in 1980....

48. MR. WALT STARR....
Your recent "gardening epiphany" :), and seeing Obama's speech last night has given me a new perspective also. I think Mr. Obama is a genuinely "righteous dude"... no doubt about it.

I do hope, sincerely, and deep within my heart that once Kerry is elected, once Mr. Obama is elected, and once the Congress (at least the Senate) is returned to us, that our Dem leaders will set about upon the path of justice... i.e. bringing it to bear upon the entire Bush cabal. And thereafter, that no Dem will ever allow themselves to be backed into such a corner again that they have to dissemble and cow-tow to an argument that has been nefariously framed by a Republican.

Like you, I pledge to refrain from any further negative comments about our Dem leaders acquiescing to the evil Rethugs... but do expect that justice will be ours someday! :loveya:

but it drives me crazy when the likes of Hannity, O'Reilly, etc..get away with saying Bush did not lie but was miseld when there is so much evidence to the contrary....it's just that no one from the Dem brings out that evidence substantively....they just sit back and allow the repubs and Bush to get away with the lie and they look silly in the meantime.....I see your point. We must keep our eyes on the prize. I just feel that taking the truth to the people is not considered bashing....it's informing the people just how dangerous Bush and his thugs are.

25. You Know He's Good When...
The Republicans start sending their attack dogs onto a State Senator from Illinois.

Already what I'm hearing is probably what they'll be bringing up for years regarding him.

Apparently in a book he admits doing cocaine when he was 18. He says it was a stupid kid thing, and he turned his life around.

Now the smear machine is saying something along the lines of "Sure I did cocaine, doesn't everyone?" as if he said it, when in fact it was a Chicago humorist and not Obama.

10 years from now your Mother in Law (figuratively speaking, I of course mean My Mother In Law) will be saying that he said it and never believe that he didn't.

*sigh*

I had never even posted about him on DU and knew very little about him. I considered last night my introduction to him. Needless to say, I am a major fan and want to see him go as far as possible.

As for anyone bad-mouthing him, we all know DU has lots of weak-willed, self-centered hysterics and whiny malcontents who get really shrill when someone says something that even mildly pricks the little bubble of unreality in which they dwell.

Woof! :hi:

39. There is an old saying that fails so many of us here:
"Meet people where they are, and take them to where you want them to be" gifted politicians do this. DU-ers fail to realize this is key.

Obama is a gifted communicator. I don't think anyone should hang heads in shame for speaking their minds, but I do think they should grow the F up when it comes to politics. ;)

45. "Meet People Where They Are...
and take them to where you want them to be" That's the best thing I've heard on DU in a long time. And it's exactly what I think the Democratic Party has been trying to do this year. Unfortunately, I missed Senator Obama's (nice to start calling him that) speech, but got home in time to see Theresa Heinz Kerry's.

She talked about "appealing to the better angels of our nature" which is what I think most Americans want out of a leader. They want someone to inspire them and not to divide them. They want somebody to tell them why this idea is a good thing and why they should go along with it. They don't want somebody to browbeat or scare them into it.

This is how Bill Clinton/Al Gore won in 1992 & 1996 and I think this is how John Kerry/John Edwards will win in 2004. And they will bring America along with them.

44. I wasn't one of them, but I don't see why they should be ashamed
The man gave a speech of *historic* proportions, but his policy stance didn't change between MTP and now, and therefore if the policy is what upset people, I don't see why the speech should make a difference. However, it should be clear to all how deeply Obama resonates when talking about the core values of the party--especially since he is one of the only people to have mentioned the Big Brother snooping in library records and the Sovietesque taking of Arab Americans without allowing them any due process. So maybe that's what you mean.

cheered (and I was alone except for the dogs and cats and they grew alarmed). "we are not liberal America; we are not conservative America; We are the United States of America...hope for a skinny boy with a funny name..." Even David Brooks said "it is too bad that the major networks did not cover this. They missed out." The kid (he's only 42) was electrifying.

64. Will, we donated to Obama as a Dean Dozen.
We criticize Dean when he says Bush had honorable intentions, and that is what a lot of the stuff was about.

A few went over the line, but this covert snickering at those of us who do not think Bush was "honorable" is just ugly.

Dean did it and Obama, and all the rest of the pack last Sunday, should NOT have praised Bush so profusely. It was wrong.
