Please Don't Forget
The people on the stage of the Convention are Politicians.
They are saying things that you want to hear, they are salesmen.
I worry when I see people cry over a politican's words because they have and will stab anyone in the back for their career.
They aren't rock stars and don't deserve to be worshipped.
If we let our guard down we will regret it.

4. Call me a sucker
But when Barak Obama told me last night that it effects him when a child can't read, even though it isn't his child, I believed him. He isn't telling me what I want to hear. He is telling me how he feels. The same can be said of T-H-K. She told me last night how she feels and guess what? I believed her.

6. The thing is
I also feel grief for those who don't have all the advantages in life. Obama speaks for me and my feelings. Call me a bleeding heart who knows that there are others who CARE about the state of the human condition.

10. That is what makes us a liberal
Caring for the vulnerable in our society because we are all in it together. The greatest nation in the world can't leave illiterate people behind, hungry people behind, homeless people behind. We are all bleeding hearts here and that is a good thing.

5. Not all are politicians on that stage.
Never-the-less, many politicians seriously mean what they say and are dedicated to a life of public service and survive without losing their ideals. Rock stars? How about bible thumpers?

7. You're right. It's OK to get excited about our candidates, but
we can't afford to lose our healthy cynicism.

8. David? David Brooks?
Edited on Wed Jul-28-04 09:52 AM by liberalmuse
Is that you?

You know, for some reason, I find it insulting that some people feel the need to caution others as if they were mindless dolts. David Brooks did that last night after positively gushing over Obama. He was very concerned about people viewing him as some kind of sports star--'Be careful...'. Sheesh! The truth is, most people really can think for themselves. I'd go so far as to bet that while our Dem reps are given their speeches, people here are sorting out the jingoism from the sincerity, and can tell the 'say anything to get elected' from what the reality will be.

Really, can we just have ONE WEEK where we can feel good? It's been four years of bullshit every day. Can all the naysayers here hold off for just ONE MORE WEEK?

Frankly...no, they can't. Some people just have to be a buzzkill.

11. And I presume you will be giving the
same advice to Republicans watching their convention? Your message seems to be all politicians are evil, so don't forget to spread info that to the "other" side as well.

P.S. I have yet to "worship" anything or anyone. That doesn't mean I can't cry if something touches me. If you need another bucket of cold water, just let us know.

13. Barak Obama isn't an actor.

Looks to me like he believes every word he says.

Go peddle this nonsense someplace else.

14. party pooper

Yes, they are not gods, not worshipped, but respected, maybe loved, definitely invested in (emotionally, time-wise what have you), so a little time to shine is OK in my book.

I'm usually cynical enough myself to think the choice is only between the lesser of two evils, but this time, the greater evil is so much more greater, I'll just thank you to not rain on my parade.

15. I think you're confused.
The convention with a stage full of "salesmen" who don't believe what they're saying and EXPECT to be worshipped begins in about a month in NYC.

16. Do we participate in the politics of cynicism?
Or do we participate in the politics of hope?

Edwards knows the answer. Obama knows the answer. And I know the answer, although DU often disagrees.

17. When anyone’s words simply articulate what I’m already feeling….
It’s not them selling me anything, it’s touching something that’s already there. I’m sorry you haven’t had the opportunity to experience that.
