Is it just me or have seniors been ignored thus far? |
|
I know there have been passing references to Social Security, but I haven't noticed any direct appeals at the DNC to seniors. Could they be ignoring a crucial constituency? Being less internet savvy, I worry that they may be most vulnerable to the GOP spinmeisters...

1. You know.. so far I agree with you. |

There appears to be blocks of convention time with themes, apealing to various voter demographics. I am HOPING the DNC was smart enough and compassionate enough to recognize the senior vote. They musn't take ANY vote for granted. The speeches definitely addressed issues of importance to seniors, but their speaker line up, etc., hasn't addressed them specifically.. yet. We have two more days, I'll take a wait n' see attitude unti the final gavel.

Thing is, I think the strategy, or one of the strategies, behind this convention is to get younger voters motivated to come out and vote for the Democrats. Senior citizens will get out and vote, they always do. The challenge will just be to get them to go (D) (preferably on a ballot not designed by M.C. Escher).

4. Everyone's mentioned prescription drugs so far |
|
Excapt maybe Teresa. Nothing too in-depth, though. I imagine seniors are a large proportion of the folks watching this, on C-Span or otherwise, so it would behhove them to pay more attention.
Overall, though, I think they're doing a damned good job.

5. I've heard prescription drugs from everyone. |
|
Even some examples of individuals in several speeches.
Did you want more varied topics?

6. I agree seniors have been ignored |
|
Given the size of this voting bloc, there should be more than just a few issues that come up

There have been numerous references to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, prescription drug prices, stem cell research, and other issues that affect the elderly. I don't know why some people assume that something isn't happening unless they personally witnessed it.
Last night, EVERY speaker I saw at the convention made a mention of at least one of these issues.

8. Janet Neapolitano talked about health care. Ron Reagan Jr talked about |
|
an issue that was aimed directly at seniors: using technology to make sure that you live out yoru final years with dignity. Even David Brooks admitted that when he talks to rich white Republicans, this is a serious wedge issue with the older ones who care more about Alzheimmers than about terrorists. Ron tapped right into that sentiment.
