Does anyone know if anyone is working on chad removal from

the remaining punch card machines in the country? I was just remembering the problem in Florida when the chad buildup was so severe due to the unemptied chad recepticles that new chad simply could not enter the box. I think most of us can remember when the random chad box was opened in the courtroom spewing chad everywhere. The failure to perform the required regular clean out had made it impossible for the punching device to punch a clean hole through the ballots. This is something that can easily be prevented in advance by insuring that punch card machines are properly cleaned before the election. There is still time. Does anyone know if anyone is coordinating such an effort? If there is no such effort underway at this time, I would like to help this Clean Elections effort. Please let me know.....Thanks

1. my next-door neighbor was hired as a chad-plucker
for the 2002 election. They had a lot of people doing this to make sure the ballots were correctly counted. Since then we have moved to a different kind of optical scan ballot here (Lane County, Oregon) so we don't need chad-pluckers anymore

2. Harris County (Houston & area) was proud of its well-maintained machines.
The punch-card systems work quite well if they are well maintained. But the Republicans on the body that governs elections pushed for new electronic systems, so that's what we've been using since 2002.

4. HI! I used to live in Houston till I couldn't take the weather anymore.
Thanks for the info on Harris. Could you please see if any old punch card machines are left in TX. I think it is unlikely since* probably made sure that his buddies got rich selling them all over the state. But just in case, I'd like to know. Thanks
