Just heard it from a "true Christian" from Missouri on C-Span. He is an "ACLU" lawyer yada yada yada.

3. ZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Another awesome, well-thought out, intellectual argument from the right.

They are sceered...that their budding theocratic, corporatist hell-bath is getting ready to be axed. I wish NOV 2 was freaking tomorrow...I want to go VOTE.

12. Yes. I think their desperation will doom them. Like the space suit pics.
Edited on Wed Jul-28-04 02:55 PM by Brotherjohn
I'm GLAD that was "the story" yesterday. I think most people see that for how juvenile it was. And the Bush campaign are proud that they themselves released the pics!

Most people clearly see that Kerry was wearing a suit he was required to wear when visiting that part of the NASA facility. He obviously wasn't staging something to look "cool", like, say, THIS:

or maybe even, I don't know, THIS:

Kerry was simply doing what was required. Most people see this as a childish attack, which only brings up the fact that they are avoiding actual ISSUES.

4. Remind him that ACLU stands for American Civil Liberties Union
I thought the terrorists hated us for our freedom. Freedom equals civil liberties. Are you with the terrorists or with the ACLU? :)

5. Yup.
As I stated on another thread, during Obama's electrifying speech, I turned to my BF and predicted that they would come up with this witty name.

They are SO predictable.

BUT WHERE IS THE FUCKING OUTRAGE AT EQUATING A CANDIDATE FOR PUBLIC OFFICE WITH A TERRORIST AND MASS MURDERER?????

And yet Nazi comparisons with Bush are grounds for crucifiction.

I am starting to think that, by letting RW loons rant like this nationally, they are being exposed as idiots whom only the most hardened nutbag would side with.

13. They got away with smearing Max Cleland last election.
In 1996, the odious first-term rep. Andrea Seastrand ran ads using the image of the murderer of Polly Klaas and the image of her opponent, religion professor Walter Capps, who was, if I recall correctly, an opponent of the death penalty. The voice-over referred to "the liberal" (meaning Capps) and referred in the same breath to the murderer, if I'm not mistaken.

Seastrand lost the election. Walter Capps died during his term and was replaced by his wife, Lois, who held on to the seat in subsequent elections.

Contrast that with the odious Saxby Chambliss, who ran ads attacking Senator Max Cleland's patriotism. The reason? Cleland supported another version of the bill creating the Homeland Security Department, not Bush's anti-union version.

Chambliss got away with it. I don't know whether that's a reflection on an off-year election or the nature of the electorate or what, but the odious little man got away with it. Given that, we have to keep fighting to unmask these demagogues daily.

If this woman, and the other who called to say she supported Bush are any examples of your average Republican, then I'd have to say the Republican party is full of ignorant idiots.

Was Obama really an ACLU lawyer? If, he is even more wonderful than I previously thought.

How cool, the governor of Sandia Pueblo is on C-Span! There have been some many of my homies at the Convention.

Seriously though, although the name switch is juvenile and ridiculous, I think we're long over due for another OBL conversation in this country. If they want to say Obama/Osama, then we need to say "well speaking of Osama, where is he?"

16. :kick: That Obama speech. . .
was absolutely one of the best that I have heard in years. And I have
been listening to these sorts of speeches since the sixties. It was topic of water cooler talk today at work.

In fact, I have been just dazzled by most of the convention speeches
that I have heard so far. Not an irrelevant or boring one in the
bunch! The Big Dog was nothing short of magnificant!

Before I say what I am going to say, I wanna remind everybody that
I am a 50 year old black woman. So if you think these are racist
comments, just go away. I'm just speaking my mind here.

Anyway, folks, this negative backlash from the *brain trust* of the GOP was to be expected. They are constantly on the lookout for
flub-ups, screw-ups, errors or mistakes that they can latch onto.
THEY are the nattering nabobs of the negative. When it comes to people of color, they prefer *certain* types that they can readily mock or manipulate, or that they can use as tokens or human shields for their own incompetence. (And we know who *those* types are. One of them is currently sitting on the Supreme Court. . .) To them, there is nothing more frightening than an articulate, intelligent person of color who thinks and speaks his or her own mind and who goes his or her own way. Obama is clearly one who got away from them, and they can't stand that. What is even more frightening to them is that they won't be able to control Obama when he gets into the
Senate. He'll have to be "shown his place."

I actually expect to hear a whole lot worse about Barack Obama.

Brace yourselves for the incoming mudbath.

18. Excellent post. Thank you for that...
I was thinking that the absolute gushing over Barak last night on PBS by 3 old white guys wasn't just because of the speech... maybe they were SURPRISED that a black man could be so articulate and cool and sexy and bright, etc.
I know that was off topic, and thank you again. We'll be ready for them when they come...

should be up in arms over his speech last night. Say goodbye to ever hearing Edwards make his "Two Americas" speech again, Obama made it impossible for him to ever say it once more.

Obama's speech only reinforces Edwards populust idea. Brilliant "stategery" at our Democratic Convention this year. I've been most impressed.

25. I'd like to agree
but seeing as how the Rethugs are running with what he said last night to promote themselves, I can't. I thought it was a good speech, but if Edwards hops onstage tonight and makes the "Two Americas" speech, we're gonna be in trouble. I can see the CSPAN calls right now LOL

You said:
"I thought he used the opportunity to promote himself and his own platform in the Senate race. His speech will make it impossible for Edwards to ever use his "Two Americas" speech again and gave the right wing some ammo in the process. Plus, there's something about him that just rubs me the wrong way. I don't know what, though. LOL"

28. exactly
there are no red or blue states, no ethnic states and other slice/dice games of pundit play but there are the haves and the have-nots in the UNITED STAES. It's not contradictory at all, except rather than call it two Americas, JRE should take on the issue of classs warfare and GOP manipulation of it through his life story, his American Dream story which is analogous to Obama's.
