A close friend waffled and dissed DU...and regretted it
Some very close friends of ours returned from a few weeks away, and we got a chance to spend some time together, among other mutual friends, on Sunday evening. We're pretty much all dems/progs; the one real republican no longer calls himself that...he's a "libertarian" now, and says he won't be voting for Bush. BUT...the guest in question actually sports one of my WAS THIS A GREAT COUNTRY OR WHAT? bumper stickers on his car. He had just spent time with his future in-laws, so I am guessing that flavored his remarks. But, when the subject of Bush came up (ironically, by another repub-turned-Kerry supporter in attendance), and I responded, my buddy scoffed and said, "You read way to much Democratic Underground. The country is split. You never hear anyone talking like this in the real world."

The group (ten people) went nuts on him. "Are you insane? You can't find anyone willing to admit publicly they support Bush!" Several quotes were offered, stories about Bush's various scandals, lies, deaths, etc. A half hour of nine people -- his fiance included -- jumping on him and explaining the rigged push-polling, the Diebold connection, etc, etc, etc, and he was about to cry, I think. When even the two actual republicans in attendance said Bush sucked, he relented, and admitted maybe it was HIM who wasn't paying enough attention.

Shoot...score!

2. Good job!
Stories like these give me such hope, especially after go-nowhere conversations with my repuke co-workers. Today I heard such wise comments from one homophobe like "Isn't Teresa's son gay?" (my response, no, you must be thinking of Cheney's daughter), and another from a woman more concerned about lipstick shades than actual issues: "Did Teresa take a tranquilizer before she spoke?" (no, you idiot, what does Laura take to give her that special "stepford" glow?) ARRRGGHHH
