Stem Cell- Correction
I have read a lot of posts that say this would have helped Reagan and many others re: Alzheimers. This is not correct. So far Stem Cell research has indicated that it would not do anything for that.

1. correction, you cannot use the word "anything"

never say never

Edit: the term "so far" is very prophetic, however

2. SO far missile defense has proven you can't hit a bullet with a bullet in
space without giving the one bullet cue cards but it hasn't stopped us from dumping billions into it...the point is that these cells very likely DO have the key to solving and treating many life threatening diseases. Amazing that Republicans have a much lower threshhold for approving instruments of war and death than they do life-saving scientific discoveries.

3. Money for death but not for life.
I agree. I posted this to dispel the myth that Ron and his mother are just pushing the Stem Cell research for their own agenda because ex. Pres. Reagan died of Alzheimers. Of course, it would be great if this also helped with that but it has much greater promise with other diseases...so far.

5. Its greatest promise right now is hope
and that is something.

for those that are suffering, it may be all there is.

For the current president of the US, it is nothing

4. Alzheimer's is a whole brain disease--
stem cells may possibly one day be helpful for diseases that affect the genetic material of individual cells. It is not an appropriate method for treating a whole brain disease.

Saying that stem cell research may cure Alzheimer's is like saying--big ships are great for traveling across the seas--I think MAYBE we can use them for space travel.

It is absolutely absurd--and not even the thing that this therapy is meant for. But in this case--so few understand the issue--they are willing to just talk out of their ass.

6. a more apt analogy
wow, you mean once there were great big ships that could travel accross the sea?

I bet if we were to study them, we'd gain insight into how we could build other vessels... even ones that could travel in space!

--
it's not that stem cells will cure alzheimers, it's that they are a vital research key for unlocking many biologic mysteries
