Boston Globe takes cheap shot at TX delegates with photo
http://www.boston.com/news/politics/conventions/articles/2004/07/28/for_texas_delegates_a_lonely_role/

There was a story just now on my local news affiliate (WFAA Channel 8) about this photo. The photo was taken in the early afternoon, when there weren't many TX delegates around. Had they taken it just a couple of hours later, the seats would have been packed with screaming, dancing, cheering TX delegates.

The news channel even called the Boston Globe and spoke to an editor about the "misleading, cheap shot of a photo" and he said "no comment".

Idjits. Way to make us look bad.

3. Well that just SUCKS
pond scum. My local news even interviewed the TX delegates in the picture and they were STEAMED about it. They ALL pointed out the picture was completely misleading because of the time of day they took it.

I'm writing the Boston Globe and asking for a picture of the TX delegates from a time of day when there is actually something GOING ON at the convention!

Stupid idjits.

8. It's rampant, I just saw a headline in the local
RAG from the valley (Roanoke Times -- oh I already had a run in with these wing nuts during the primaries and their shabby treatment of Wes Clark!)

Big Letters, front page: Democrats Paint Kerry as a War Hero

WTF???? News flash to you morons, he IS a WAR HERO! Unlike your mission-accomplished phoney fly-boy!

2. THAT'S why people need to call and complain.
One complaint might get a "no comment." MANY complaints might get the station management or the paper's editors to actually DO something. Maybe print a correction or retraction, or your complaining letter, or better yet - maybe they'll start thinking and reporting a little more carefully.

They do this shit because, up til recently, they have NOT been held accountable. It's the same reason we have unions. Corporations refused to do the right thing until they were forced to.

4. Good point
I am looking all over the Boston Globe home page now to see how to send an LTTE by email. They are going to hear about this.

5. Well Despite The Photo - The TX Delegation Has Been Relegated
to third tier status.

In TX, we hear that the Kerry campaign plans to spend zero dollars statewide.

All campaign efforts are self-supported only.

6. That's fine
I think I'm safe in speaking for other Kerry supporters in Texas when I say, let them spend their money and time and energy in those swing states. We WANT Kerry to win. We will totally support ourselves here, we have been all along.

No problem. The numbers coming out of TX may not make us a blue state this year, but they'll be surprising nonetheless.

I just wrote a letter to the Boston Globe, as such:

Dear Editor:

Your photo of Texas delegates on 7/28/04 was highly misleading. The caption says it was taken in the early evening, but since when is 3 pm early evening? If that picture had been taken just two hours later, it would have shown Texas delegates wearing crazy hats and sombreros, dancing, cheering and clapping.

You did Democrats all over Texas a great disservice with that misleading cheap shot of a photo. Shame on Chin and the Boston Globe for printing it. How about a picture of the Texas delegates when the convention is actually in full swing?

As for your article, I've never seen Democrats more united, energized or angrier in my home state of Texas. People are going to have to re-think their red and blue mindsets soon. We've been working hard, despite the nasty redistricting job the GOP did on Texas, to support and get Democrats elected to local and state offices. We can't do it overnight, and we certainly can't do it with this kind of sloppy journalism.

7. Hi MoonBeam, I Am Not Trying To Start A Food Fight
I was merely pointing out the reality on the ground in TX.

Many of us here are very discouraged by the lack of support from the national campaign.

Thanks for taking the time to write the paper.

10. Oh that's ok I knew you weren't
and I am totally ok with the Kerry campaign spending no money or time here. I mean it'd be NICE if they could, but I understand. I want MORE for him to wrap up those swing states!!!!

9. The Boston Globe has had GOP operatives there for over 3 decades.
It's their way of shaping perception where they can of two Dem characters they wanted to keep an eye on all those years - Kennedy and Kerry.
