Conservative West Mich. Republican Goes To Mat For Gay Marriage Issue

A very conservative Republican here in West Michigan caused an uproar this past spring when he was the lone Republican NOT to vote for a ban on gay marriage in the Michigan constitution. This guy is very religious, too, but said he can't support a ban against gay marriage because that wouldn't be fair...

Fast forward...the local Repug machine put up another guy to challenge this brave, Republican incumbent in the primaries. (gulp...did I just write "brave" and "Republican" in the same sentence!!??)

Well, the challenger is having some marital problems and the incumbent said he shouldn't run on a "defense of marriage" platform if he can't even hold his OWN marriage together.

This is too freaking hilarious!

Check this guy out:

"I'm not ready to hold the Bible over someone who has gone through divorce. But I don't understand why people are so willing to hold the Bible over the heads of homosexuals," Wenke said. "I don't see how we can be so generous with interpretation of Scripture for us heterosexuals but not for homosexuals."

I grew up north of Muskegon, just above the Taliban line. I love seeing these guys go at each other! If you're not from W. Michigan, I don't think that you have a real appreciation for shock value of something like this.

I hope that Wenke slaughters Vander Roest! Does the Dem have any chance?
