1. Rumor has it
there was a possibility of violence against Moore (death threats), so this might have been one reason he decided not to show.

2. He lives with a constant rumor of that...
Where did you hear that?

He has protection.

7. So what? The little town is brimming with Moore supporters and
Bush protesters.

Even the mayor is voting against Bush.

wtf?

6. Because Shrub's ranch is in Crawford?
That might be a clue...

8. I believe you are a bit clueless?
Why would he not want to attend the love fest in his honor?

The town was going to roll out the red carpet.

Bush has no "real" affiliation with Crawford. He merely bought the "ranch" there recently. Lots of anti-Bush folks will be there tonight. And dissappointed in Moore for stiffing them.

9. why would he want to create a scene and distract from the con?
Edited on Wed Jul-28-04 06:39 PM by thebigidea
why would he want to leave town, seeing as he's been getting tons of media coverage in Boston?

He's doing more good in Boston putting the "liberal media" in their place.

If he went to Crawford, the talking heads would be full of bullshit about Moore distracting from the convention, blahblahblah about his ego, blahblahblah.

The screening in Crawford is an idea that sounds good on paper, but its not a good week for that.

10. Because he made a commitment to the Crawford screening.
And I thought he was a man of his word.
Many, many people have gone wayyy out of their way to be there to meet him and support his efforts.
Who makes decisions based on anticipating what the talking heads might say?
Certainly not men of character. They do what they feel is right regardless. I took Moore to be a man of chararcter. I'm sure that he is and has a good reason, but that is not it, whatever it is. That is just plain creepy.

11. it sure is creepy to obsess on this screening...

... and not see the bigger picture.

And judging by the reaction to his cancellation, the old "with friends like these" line comes to mind.

"Who makes decisions based on anticipating what the talking heads might say?"

Are you kidding? The guy you're hopefully voting for, for one. And his party.

12. I can see that breaking your word means nothing to you.
That explains a lot. As well as your judgementalism.

14. Yeah, I'm the one being judgmental. You, though? Not one bit.
"I can see that breaking your word means nothing to you."

Yes, I can see how you'd arrive at that from my thoughts on tactics in this situation. I can see how you'd decide that breaking my word means nothing to me.

15. who makes their decisions based on...
Edited on Wed Jul-28-04 06:56 PM by thebigidea
... what a handful of disgruntled Texans think in the midst of probably the most important election in our lifetimes, during the week of the DNC?

His appearances in Boston will reach millions upon millions of people more than a token showing in Crawford.

And if you don't like that reason, there's the "many death threats" reason.

Though I suppose you wouldn't care about the safety of Moore and his wife, the damn Crawford screening is all-important.

What's the problem without him being there, anyway? Show the movie, thumb your nose at Bush, have a few laughs.

Sure, I got dissapointed when Takeshi Kitano cancelled out of a screening of his latest flick in LA, but I didn't start badmouthing him in public forums over it. I shrugged and moved on.

and I'm a big MM fan. He apparently made a commitment and backed out. I'm sure he had his reasons, but I think he should have gone

18. Will the screening go on, regardless? Then you are all winners!
Take pictures for everyone! You brave folks in Crawford have been heard all over the country. Everyone chuckled and appreciated your audacity! Even if Moore is a no-show, the Crawford premiere must go on!

You're defending the honor of your community and your state. On with the show!

23. Oh, its not just you. Its all the other threads saying "YOU SUCK!" to MM
"You read a lot in to my posts."

This coming from the person who somehow gets the impression that breaking my word means nothing to me, based solely on a defense of Moore staying at the convention where he's best used.

What's the word I'm looking for? Irony?

25. That was a direct response to your post
where you said why shouldn't he just hang out in boston where the action is, like blowing off his commitment to Crawford was no big deal. Breaking your word, casually like you suggested or not, is a big deal. No irony involved.
