Today's encounter w/ a Moran

This is what we're up against:

Freeper of the Day says

1) Kerry is a socialist. Why should I have to pay for health care for people who are 'too lazy to get up off their asses and work' (this is a direct quote. Compassionate Conservatism, hello?)

2) Drilling in the ANWR won't hurt the environment

3) "I heard that Teresa Heinz gives money to the families of suicide bombers."

I pointed out:

1) We already are paying for universal health care, we're just doing it in the most inefficient and expensive way possible. And, btw, it was the Republicans who prevented the government from being able to negotiate lower prescription drug prices.

2) The small supply of oil that may be gleaned from ANWR doesn't justify the environmental damage (and if you think there won't be any, you're just too stupid for words)

3) Have you ever heard of snopes.com or truthorfiction.com? This has been debunked for a long time now. Don't believe everything you hear on AM radio.

Apparently the Talking Points do not contain definitions or instructions on how to look things up in a dictionary.

2. Good attempt, but I have doubts it will work

I think your logic is great and certainly rational, but the freeper mind doesn't work that way or understand those concepts.

I have come to the conclusion that the pundits may have one thing right, there is only a small (5-10%%) group of the population who are undecided.

It seems sad and I don't mean to be a downer. What you wrote makes perfect sense, but the freeper has already built a wall of belief that can't be swayed by reason or logic. One crack in that wall would bring the entire structure of their belief crumbling down. So any information that might create stress or cause them to actually think, it not allowed.

I come to this theory with no back up or proof, only what I have seen with my own eyes and what I have experienced and read about the experiences of others.

For the sake of our country, and the world, I hope I am wrong.

Please do not take this as a critism of you, it is not, it is just human nature, IMO.

there's always hope. And there were others listening.

On a more practical note, he lost a friendly bet we made, so for the next three weeks his vehicle is going to be sporting a Kerry/Edwards bumper sticker! lol

(i pay about $3000 a year from my 33K salary)What if he could trade that for a boost in his payroll taxes of oh, say, $100 a year? The difference is about how much he would SAVE if everybody pitched in for Universal Health care.
